Clockwork explained, "Because you were terrified of what it means to be King. When Pariah claimed it, he was full of rage. You, on the other hand, were terrified. Likewise, rage burns and the Crown became the Crown of Fire. While terror is cold and the Crown became the Crown of Frost," He added, "You were always terrified, always in a state of fear. Fear for yourself that translated to fear for others. That is why you developed an obscure Obsession such as Protection,"
Danny looked at him, "I feel...different,"
Clockwork studied him, "Because your ghost instinct have been satisfied,"
He frowned, "Satisfied?"
Clockwork nodded, "Yes. You were a ghost without a Haunt, an Obsession without a clear purpose. Then, you Bonded. You found a Haunt, your Obsession clearer than ever. It strengthened you. Normally, your human side will perish a slow death. Your health would collapse as your immunity fails you. However, because of who you're Bonded to, that didn't happen," He looked at Danny, "The Queen of Spirit is the best thing or person that you could have Haunted,"
He recalled the difference. Even when his body grew and his human puberty kicked in to adapt to his ghost's growth, his health was slowly failing. However, Elsa 'infected' him with Life. As the Queen of Spirit, she was full of Life. He looked at Clockwork, "Elsa...revived me,"
Clockwork smiled, "Yes. She didn't even know that she is doing it. You are addicted to her aura. One glance and you fell for her. She was the Life that you had lost,"
Danny frowned, "I didn't...what do you mean I fell for her at first sight?"
Clockwork stared at him, "Instinct. Why do you think your ghost side rebelled harder and harder against your decision to be with your friend? It is true that you had loved her and it is true that she had hurt you to the point that your ghost's nature rejected her. But you weren't as motivated. You could have taken your time and let outside influence break you two apart. But you didn't. The moment you saw Elsa, your instinct demanded out. You became desperate to break it off as soon as possible. It was only your stubbornness to be loyal to her that prevented you from breaking it clean instantly,"
Danny was flabbergasted, "But...the pain..."
Clockwork nodded, "It was much worse for you than anyone else because you're too stubborn. I am sure you had found scars where her touch actually burned you,"
Danny winced. It was part of the reason why he avoided prolonged contact with Sam.
Clockwork added, "Originally, I believed that your ghostly plan was to stay with Sam until she's a complete mess. Nothing is more painful than being in a relationship where she isn't loved but won't be freed. Even though you were in love and kind to her, there was that long term subconscious plan to emotionally torment her. Especially since you will soon stop aging and your ghostly nature took over completely. After you were stuck in a hospital for months and died for what appeared to be a couple of minutes,"
Danny grimaced. He could sense that he would do that to Sam. Being a complete asshole to her and trapping her in a completely toxic relationship. Even if she wanted out, she will be too damaged and his revenge would have been completed. He can just see that sociopath he would have become, just to ruin her.
He sighed, "No wonder my parents are convinced that ghosts are monsters,"
Clockwork hummed, "We do behave more like the Dark Triads. But only because we had ceased to be human altogether and some of us were never one to begin with. Our mind are simply that different from a human's and the way we reasoned with our actions all returned back to our Obsession," He looked at Danny, "To us, nothing else matter than what benefits our Obsession,"
