Kenny wasted no time and jumped in through the open window in true NASCAR fashion. I heard the sirens again and sure enough, the cop car was coming back down the road towards us. Kenny floored it and I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that we didn't crash. Kenny knew these roads a lot better than I did, so even though letting him drive my car made me want to barf from nerves, it made sense and I trusted him.
"You know, you kinda reminded me of Beau Duke with that move," I joked as I looked out the back windshield for any signs of police.
"Good, he's the better looking Duke boy," Kenny commented back. His eyes were locked on the road and his knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
"We'd better get off the road in case he called in my plate."
"Here, check it. I've got the police blotter app on my phone." Kenny unlocked his phone with his thumb and handed it to me.
"Jesus, you run from the cops so much that you have their app?" I smiled as I noticed that his background was the photo he took of me in front of the nurse's office with my bloody face. Guess he was right that I'd laugh about it someday.
I struggled to read through the cracks in his screen, and finally located and opened the app. I turned up the volume and put my ear up to the speaker.
"Unit 11 requesting permission to pursue (y/f/c) Ford Mustang, year and tag unknown," a dopey voice called over the radio.
"Location of pursuit?"
"Residential zone, West South Park."
"Denied, I repeat, do not pursue, request denied."
I smiled at Kenny. "We're good - no plate, no pursuit!"
"Oh, sweet... cause I, uh, don't have a license," Kenny sheepishly admitted.
"What?! Pull over!"
Kenny pulled my car off into the next parking lot, a kids themed pizza joint called Whistlin' Willy's. I stepped out of the car immediately to swap seats and met him at the front.
"Why the hell did you tell me you can drive like NASCAR if you have no license?!" I crossed my arms and interrogated him as we leaned on the hood of my car.
He shrugged. "I can drive, I just don't have a license. My parents couldn't afford the probationary classes and stuff, so I have to wait until I'm 18."
"Jesus! I wish you told me that before you drove my car. I trusted you!"
"Hey, I got us out of there fast and safe, didn't I?" Kenny smirked at me. "Come on, I know you liked watching me drive the getaway car... bein' my passenger princess."
"I was almost a passenger heart attack victim." I rolled my eyes and laughed. "...But it was fun. I had a good time fleeing from the law with you."
Kenny chuckled and put his arm around me. "So, does that mean you want to spend more time with me?"
I tilted my head and looked up at him. "Just ask me what you really wanna ask me, cowboy."
He let out a breathy laugh and bit his lip. "Jeez, straight to it then, huh... alright. Y/n, you already know how I feel about you... hell, I'm not afraid to say it again. I love you. I want you to be mine, and I want to be yours, officially. I want you to be my girlfriend."
I felt a blush creep across my face and couldn't help but smile. This boy who I'd been thoroughly warned about for being a 'bad guy' was pouring his heart out to me and asking me to be his. I met his gaze and even his eyes seemed to be saying 'please'.
