"mom said I probably needed to eat those gross things you get from the leaves of a plant." the nine year old yuuji describes with pure ick.
"I'm surprised you know there's leaves on a plant." young megumi replies in a blank tone.
yuuji looks at his friend in an offended manner, "you think I'm that dumb?"
"i do." megumi exclaims, more serious than ever.
after a long bickering from the two youngsters, they finally stopped at a familiar house they always stop by to pick up someone.
they stood in front of the gate and yuuji yells to call out, "y/n-san!"
after a few minutes, the door opened. it revealed a nine year old you, a big smile plastered on your face as you got out of your home and practically running up to the two in glee.
you opened the gates and finally joined them.
megumi didn't know his feelings yet, and how they work, heck he didn't even know that this wasn't a normal thing to feel for towards someone.
"good morning guys!" you tell them happily, your smile didn't change.
"good morning y/n!" yuuji greets as well, matching your energy.
you looked over to megumi, waiting for his greet as well but he just coldly looks away. this was his normal self, didn't care about anything, he was just a tough nut to crack.
the pretty smile on your face finally turned upside down.
it was just hard to get a smile or even a long reply from the raven haired and you always felt like you did something wrong.
how come?
soon enough the three of you had started to walk yourselves to your school, not forgetting to stop by any moment at nobara's place to pick her up.
you walked in the middle of the two with megumi being on your left.
"you never greet me a good morning." you tell him with a frown.
megumi looks up to you, his usual expression blank and cold, but your frown, why did he suddenly feel this shift in his feelings, "you'll live."
that was the usual morning with megumi and your friends whom you called as soon as you entered middle school. you remembered coming into your class after begging for your big brother to come with you.
you hid behind his back, feeling anxious to face new faces after a while. 
and nobara was the first to approach you, she had standards for her friends, despite being young, she knew she liked a person just by seeing them and you were pretty and smart.
and then there was yuuji, he was at his little corner in recess time, eating his own booger probably.
you felt bad, yuuji looked like a good kid so with nobara doubting your actions you asked the pink haired to join you two.
