~Damon Russo~
Screams.
Violent screams echo my head.
All of them reminding me of the things I've done. Every murder. Every torturous thing. Drowning in the blood of many. Every demon comes out to play, to mess with my head, to destroy me.
And no matter how hard I try to distinguish them, they always rise like the ashes.
I fake a grin, waving at the many associates that swarm around the hall, chatting it up like they adore one another. But this world is an eat or be eaten world. You either stay as prey or you become a predator. I walk around with my family trailing behind me, Damien the least excited to be here. He wants to be the one to marry, to drown in the attention and richness. Everyone has smiles on their faces, but joy is the last emotion they all feel.
For example, John Maxwell, a man who's waving at me with the widest of smiles has worry in his eyes because his empire is slowly collapsing. He made bad investments, bad deals and now he is in debt with me. And he has millions to pay by the end of the week, and he knows his life will be the price to pay if he doesn't get my money. I don't need the money, but I don't back down on my word. Money and power, the main thing that makes every human driven. The mere taste of luxury makes people crazed...
My thoughts run in my head, every single thing reminds me of my past. Although I try my hardest to avoid it, to run from the constant voices knocking on my head to remind me of everything I failed at as a child, I cannot escape. The banquet hall was decorated to perfection, and yet the people inside were the least of perfection. Every single person in here is in debt, or crumbling and or cocky. There are the people who are here for forgiveness, and others are here to flaunt. Everyone loves money, but what people love to do more is to flaunt it. To show off the success. But once you fall off the high pedestal you've placed yourself on, you realise that you didn't truly become successful at anything.
My mother walks off, grasping a champagne glass before chugging it down. Everyone's eyes widen at her show, and then my father comes in. Glaring at every single soul who dares stare her. It's almost cute, but as their son, I have to be disgusted. John stares, still trying to keep his trembling smile above waters, trying his hardest to seem like he's confident. But he has his back slouched, his face dull and his eyes give away his very emotion. Fear.
"John." I reach my hand out and he shakes mine, and my eyes snap to the sweat dripping from his forehead. Disgusting. "Damon! Ah, it's great to see you." He exclaims, still sweating as my eyes stay fixated on him. My grip tightens on his hand and his smile drops, so does his heart. "I-"
I interrupt, smirking just the slightest. "Get me the money, within the week Johnny. If not, I'll take your life as payment." I release his hand, grinning like we just chatted like old friends before walking away to find my brother. I analyse the banquet hall before seeing the back exit door being slammed open by my brother.
