Alex's POV:

"Hi Marilyn." I said, as I set some of our bags down by the doorway. "Yes, we just got to our Airbnb." I stated, as I walked towards the dresser by the bed.

"Honey?" Christian's voice echoed behind me. "Where's my bag with my laptop?"

I turned to see he was entering the doorway with my suitcase. Looking disheveled from the italian sun. We had just taken a train from Rome to France, after spending time down the coast of Italy. We wanted to take this trip a year ago, however Christian got promoted at work and I just started my job as an online therapist...  So it was easier to stay in the States for the time being. We had fun spending last summer up and down the east coast, and spending time back in Rhode Island where his family is from.

"It should be by the door," I pointed to the black bag.

"Is that Christian sweetheart?" Marylins voice stated on the other side of the phone.

"Yes, he just brought up the rest of our bags." I stated, watching as Christian bend down and start rummaging through the bag.

"Can I talk to him?" She asked.

"Yes." I removed the phone from my ear. "It's your mom, babe." I spoke swiftly, passing the phone down to him, since he was now on his knees.

"Hi mom." He breathed out, still looking through the bag.

I grabbed my suitcase from the doorway and rolled it into our bedroom more. The sun was starting to set, and I didn't want to wear my maxi skirt and simple white shirt into the evening. We were supposed to get dinner and take a tour of the Eiffel Tower tonight. I started pulling out a few dresses, and sensible heels I bought in Italy, thinking of which one I could wear tonight.

"I'm looking for it right now mom." Christian stated almost frustrated. I glanced over to see he had pulled almost everything out from his black bag and started on the other one lying down. "I don't know." He said, pulling out a few shirts. "I'll ask her." He stated, still looking through his clothes. "Are you going to wear the dress my mom told you to bring, tonight?" He asked, glancing over his shoulder towards me.

"I wasn't but I can..." I said, rummaging through my suitcase to find it. "Why?" I asked, looking over at him.

"Ummm." He looked back down. "She said she wants to see you wear it at least once on the trip."

"It's just really nice." I stated, pulling out the nice, tight, black dress she bought me before we left on our trip. "I was saving it for when we go to London." I looked over to him. He was still going through his bag. "What are you looking for Chris?" I finally asked, watching him freeze as he slowly turned and looked up at me. His brows furrowed, as I could hear his mom on the other line.

"My... watch." He stated slowly. "When were you planning on calling Courtney?" He asked, looking back down at his bag.

"I was going to call her once I got off the phone with your mom." I spoke in a polite tone, trying to not stress him out more. "Can I use your phone?"

"No." He rushed out. "They'll think it's me. Here..." he started, "Hey mom we'll call you later. Alex has to make a few more calls... okay... bye." He pulled the phone away from his ear and ended the call, before handing it to me.

"Why did I have to call your mom and sister?" I asked, grabbing my phone back from him.

"They wanted to hear from you... that's all." He spoke slowly, still looking through his bag.

"I've been sending them pictures of us." I muttered to myself, as I clicked on Courtney's contact info. When I then raised it up to my ear and waited for her to answer, which took only two rings.
