"Are we there yet?"
"No, Alice."
"Are we there yet?"
"Nope."
"Are we there yet?"
"For christ's sake, we aren't there yet."Alice was currently impatiently kicking her feet from the back seat of the car regretting her decision to come along on the road trip. She was sooooooo bored. Jonathan wouldn't even turn on her mix tape or play 'I spy' with her. The only interesting thing had been when the two told her about the supernatural stuff that had gone down the year prior, but she wasn't impressed. Yeah, it was cool to her, but she really wanted to play License Plate Bingo or any game, really.
Why the fuck did I even come along on this?"I think we're gonna stop here," Nancy looked over her shoulder and gave her a polite smile.
"This place looks rank," Alice rolled her eyes.
"Well, you're not paying, so don't complain," Jonathan shot back.
"Okay, DAD."
Jon pulled into the parking lot of a place called 'The Motor Motel'. It looked run-down, old, and a bit dingy. Nancy had to pull Alice out of the car to get her inside while Jon grabbed everyone's stuff. A lady was behind the counter smoking, watching TV, and paying no mind to the people right at her desk. Nancy uncomfortably rang the tiny bell at the desk, which the woman didn't respond to."We'd like a room, please," Alice sarcastically smiled.
"We got those," The woman replied, never taking her eyes off the screen. "You want a single or a double?"
"Does it look like we're in a threesome?" Alice shot back, "A double would be nice."
All of a sudden, the three had gotten their room key and set up camp for the night. Alice and Nancy shared a bed while Jonathan had his own.
"Nance?" He broke their long and awkwardly hanging silence, "On or off?" He gestured to the light switch.
She just chuckled at him.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just... deja vu."
"Yeah..."
"Don't you think it's weird how we only seem to hang out when the world's about to end?"
"It's not going to end."
"Feels like it.""I'm glad I could join you guys on your world-ending journey this time. Thank you," Alice said to them, "Goodnight."
She quickly dozed off to sleep, ignoring and not hearing the rest of her step-in-parent's night time conversation due to her throwing on headphones blasting The Smiths. The last thing she could tell before she fell into a deep slumber was the light going out and the bed's slight shifting ended.~
The next morning was hectic. The three woke up early and quickly got ready, hopping in the car less than an hour after their alarm. After a couple more tolling hours in the car, they finally pulled up to the supposed address, though it looked more like an oversized storage locker than anything else.
"You shitheads positive this is the right place?" Alice popped her head between the two front seats.
"3833, yeah," Nancy sighed.
"He must be either broke or a weirdo. Or a broke weirdo," Alice contemplated to herself as she exited the car.Jon hesitantly rang the doorbel- sorry, buzzer and waited for a response.
"Look at the camera," A voice blared.
Nancy and Jon awkwardly started at a dot on the buzzer while Alice's eyes wandered around and found a security camera above and started waving to it.
"You two are idiots, look where the blonde one is waving."
Murray- who was a middle-aged, plump, man with glasses and a black goatee -opened the door.
"Nancy Wheeler. Jonathan Byers. Alice Green, I believe. You three are a long way from home."
"Whoa, how'd you know my name. Wait, I know yours, it's Murray Bauman. Did I get it right?" Alice bit her bottom lip trying to hold in her excitement.
"Yes. Yes you did," He gave her a light, very fake, smile, "Come inside."They quickly entered and followed Murray into what he called his home.
"I hope you didn't come all this way to tell me about the bear in the Harrington kid's backyard. I've heard that one already."
He led them further into the house to his investigating area and continued his shpiel.
"Take a look. Go ahead, don't be shy. I followed up on 200 tips, most bogus, but that's how these things always go, okay? I know every last step Barbara took that day, every last person she talked to. The answer to what happened to your friend, it's up here somewhere. I assure you that. I just gotta connect the right dots."
