Call Home ⤵
''And uh, you're calling me?''
''It seems that way, huh?''
Malcom laughed from the other end of the line. I could hear him shuffle from his spot in his chair, one he usually sat in whether he was stressed or suffering from a headache. How did I know he was in the chair? Well, Ian was stressed and suffering from a headache for being on call for about three minutes.
''What about Alan?'' Malcom shifted again, growing frustrated with the way he wouldn't grow comfortable in his chair. I heard another shuffle of clothes before it went silent.
I shrugged from my end, given he couldn't see it. ''Can I not talk to my favorite person in the world?''
''That's a new low.'' He uttered.
It had been a casual morning. Grady left early this morning, leaving a post-it note on my side table. In a few short words it explained that I had fallen asleep and he moved me to the bed before locking the door behind him. Of course, I completely understood.
The Raptors needed to be taken care of — since the others were scared and cowered away from the sight of them, they trusted Grady to do most of the work. I would, too, given my luck with Raptors. I doubt Alan has the best luck with them, either.
So, I spent my day sitting around most of the morning. But quickly growing bored, I picked up the phone and called Ian. If I called Alan, he would've given me another pep-talk about having declined such a job offer in the first place, then we'd be at the same conversation for hours. Ian was a bit more laid back.
''Say, how's the uh.. job coming along?'' Ian shifted again in his chair. The leather rubbing against whatever outfit he currently wore. Probably something dark and lightweight. ''Haven't heard from you in a while, I uh, started to think you fell off the face of the earth for a second there.''
With my phone propped between my shoulder and my ear, I hopped up from the couch and started something for lunch. I was hungry and didn't feel like leaving the house. Not at this particular time nor in this particular weather. A harsh storm was making its way across the waters and I didn't want to be out there for that.
If I was out there, Ian's suspicions wouldn't be much suspicions.
''Hard.'' I shrugged, opening the fridge to take a quick peek inside. ''Had a Triceratops not too long ago. Nothing too bad, Masrani was probably worse than the Dinosaur.''
''He cares that much?''
''For his dinosaurs? Of course. He's like a toddler with them, and once he sees them hurt or in some sort of distress he goes about to make it right. Heck, he even bought a newborn a squeaky toy because it was so adorable.''
