"Alright everybody, pay attention to me, please."

The lights are turned on inside the meeting room, and it immediately brightens up the otherwise mundane and gray area. Here, where there are gray curtains in front of the window, a whiteboard by the wall and wooden tables with rows of wooden chairs, fifteen detectives sit down and wait for their sergeant to speak.

The sergeant in question slams down a stack of papers on the front desk, and looks back up at the gray and black dressed police force in the room. "The chief has given us his best for solving case street sixteen, but celebrations can only last so long. Work is piling up on our shelves, and we have to catch up on all of it."

Subtle groans are heard throughout the small crowd, but nobody says anything against the old man. He gives them a sigh and then gestures at them all with a paper in his hand. "I've assigned you to different smaller cases, and you'll find them on the bulletin board. Everyone else is dismissed, for now, but I want our violent crimes transfers to stay."

Probably finding the meeting useless, twelve detectives stand up from their chairs and walk out of the room. The three remaining ones are all young, in their twenties or thirties, and they look at each other. A brown haired woman is one of them, and she gives her fellow detective a shrug when he looks at her, confused.

The sergeant walks up to them, and half-sits down on one of the tables in front of them. He folds his arms over his chest. "Look, I know financial crimes may be a bit boring compared to where you transferred from-"

"Not at all, sir." Another boy answers, the youngest, and blondest one in the group of three. They all transferred from the third violent crimes unit last month, when the capital city police force was undergoing some changes. Financial crimes is probably the most boring unit to be in, but if they want to advance here, they can't just tell their manager that.

The sergeant gives them a small smile, and then continues. "-But, I have decided to reward you for all the boring desk-work you three had to do-" He pulls out a folder, and puts it on the woman's and man's desk. "With this."

"Sir?"

Looking confused at the paper, the brown haired woman is the first one to pick it up. She weighs the folder in her hand and then opens it. While she looks through it, her boss explains to the rest of them. "It's a lead to a series of surprisingly violent crimes concerning the private financial sector. Since each crime technically belongs to the violent crimes unit, the chief thought It'd be best to give you three the whole case. Are you up for it?"

Looking at each other, they are all thinking the exact same thing.

"Yes, sir."

Finally, a change to their mundane life.

Esid Capital University is a place where only the capable go.

Even rich kids can't get in with only their money. Sure, money helps with the tuition, but there are plenty of scholarships. The main aim of the university is to uphold the absolute highest rank in the country, and to compete with their neighboring countries' top universities. Hollie was pressured to work hard to get into this university, but she's luckier than most, with no tuition hanging over her shoulders thanks to her family.

The sun peeks behind the clouds for a short while, however, it's overshadowed by the light but constant rain that falls from the grayish white sky. There must be a rainbow somewhere, considering the mix of rain and sunshine. Hollie would've thought about that if it were a normal day for her.
