—CHAPTER ONE: "ENJOY THE SILENCE."— BY DEPACHE MODE; RELEASED ON FEBRUARY 5, 1990

WORDS LIKE VIOLENCE, BREAK THE SILENCE. COME CRASHING IN, INTO MY LITTLE WORLD. PAINFUL TO ME PIERCE RIGHT THROUGH ME. CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND? OH MY LITTLE GIRL

📍MIYAGI PREFECTURE, SENDAI CITY, [SUGISAWA HOSPITAL]

As the winds blew outside, you sat in the waiting room of Sugisawa Hospital, a small teddy bear cradled in your arms. You had been on your way back to your village to rest and take a nice shower after a delivery that has gone wrong, but when your aunt called to tell you that her son, your six-year-old cousin named Hikaru, has been hospitalized and fighting for his life, You knew you had to stay with your aunt and her husband.

Hikaru was suffering from haemophillus influenza, a bacterial infection that causes fever, nausea, vomiting, runny nose, sore throat, back pain, swelling around the eyes, headache and a stiff neck. It can also lead to death or other serious lifetime complications if it isn't treated quickly.

As you waited patiently for the news, You couldn't help but think of all the things that could go wrong.

"What if.. my son's body doesn't react to the antibiotics?" Your aunt's husband suddenly asked. He looked so worn out. Honestly you couldn't blame them.

You quickly turned to him, exclaiming; "HUH?! Don't say that!" you burst out, louder than you intended. The receptionists, nurses, and doctors working in the hospital all turned to look at you, shushing you. "sorry!"

As you sat next to your aunt's husband, who was trying to hold back his tears, the waiting room fell into a hushed silence. You could sense the sadness and uncertainty in the air, and you didn't want to add to it.

You took a deep breath and spoke softly, hoping your words would provide some comfort. "Even if Hikaru does pass away, he will be in a better place," you said, with a warm smile.

To your surprise, the husband's expression changed. The despair on his face slowly softened, and he looked at you with gratitude. He nodded silently, and you could see the silent relief on his face.
