ADRIAN

Walking towards the office, I stopped outside and looked at the name on the door—Alpha Maddox.

Letting out an inaudible sigh, I felt Rafe move in my head. He had been quiet while we were with Lewis and Catrina, but I knew he listened to everything they had said. He wanted nothing more than to have our mate; if we had to have people help us, so be it.

I looked back at him. His black eyes met mine and grunted. "You okay?" I asked.

Rafe stared at me for a moment before he let out a grumble. "Mate," was all he said and sighed. "I want mate. We need to be with her."

I said nothing as I stared at the enormous beast. He was falling head over heels in love with her. He has been like this since the day we caught her scent. I heard murmurs of what it id like from wolves, but as Lycans it was very rare, we found our mates.

When Lewis found Catrina, all hope came flooding back for the others and me. We wanted what they had and more. Lycan was vastly going out. This pack used to hold more than two hundred. Most of them died fighting in wars that led them to their death. Many Lycans never found mates because they focused on helping the pack win, but everyone's eyes always expressed a longing when someone found a mate. We all felt it, including me.

"Alpha just called you," Rafe grumbled, pulling me from my thoughts.

I said nothing and looked back while opening the office door.

Alpha Maddox and Luna Elise greeted me as I stepped inside, sitting on his office couch. They both looked up at me and smiled.

"I will leave you two to talk," Luna Elise said as she moved from the couch.

Alpha Maddox nodded as she moved away and headed toward me. I moved out of the way as she walked past, but she placed her hand on my arm and gently gave me a squeeze. "We will help you," she murmured as she walked out the door.

I stepped forward as she closed the door behind her, and I moved my eyes toward Alpha Maddox, who was grinning.

"Sit, old friend," he said, pointing toward a chair before him. I did as he asked and moved toward the chair. I pulled it out, sat down, and looked toward the man I called a friend.

Alpha Maddox leaned back and sighed. "Catrina told Elise what happened between Kenna and you," he said, as his eyes stayed on me. "How can I help?"

I moved in the chair, trying to get comfy. Rafe moved closer but stayed out of sight. I knew he wanted to know what Alpha Maddox would offer.

"I don't know," I muttered, rubbing my hand over my face and letting them drop into my lap. I explained everything about what happened to him in as much detail as possible, and when I finished, Alpha Maddox moved up and sighed. "Well, that is strange," he said. "Kenna seems to be a good girl and wants to live her life the way she wants, but I thought when she saw you and felt the tingles, she may want you."

I stared at him but said nothing for a moment, but I sighed. "Do you know much about her past?" I asked, moving my head to the side. "You would have had to have references for her to work for you in the office."

Alpha Maddox looked at me for a moment and moved up slightly. "I had references," he said. "But she brought them with her. She told me her old boss gave them to her when she left, as she wanted to have a fresh start. I stared at him while he continued. I took in everything that he was saying. "I have to admit, I wanted to contact the number provided and learn more than the reference. It was of some sort of sweet nature as if he knew her personally, but when I mentioned it to her, she told me not to, as he was always busy."
