It was around noon the next day when Allie decided to bring Thomas a lunch. He was serving his time in the Slammer. She was talking with Alby who was up and around already when Chuck asked her to come with, so he could see Thomas. "Yeah sure, come Chucky, I'm sure Thomas will be glad to see you." she smiled at him. "See ya Alby." the leader just waved his hand.

As they arrived to Slammer, Chuck made their presence known. "Hey you bugging jailbird, we are commin' with gifts." he said. Allie chuckled as she looked down on Thomas and handed him a piece of chicken and a glass of water. "Everything's getting back to normal," the boy announced. "The Runners are out in the Maze, everyone's working. And, oh, yeah. Alby's up and around. Seems fine, and Newt's glad he doesn't have to be the big boss anymore."
The mention of Alby pulled Thomas's attention from his food. Chuck continued talking, taking a completely unexpected turn, he was switching looking at Allie and Thomas. "I'm kinda messed up, man. It's weird to feel sad and homesick, but have no idea what it is you wish you could go back to, you know? All I know is I don't want to be here. I want to go back to my family. Whatever's there, whatever I was taken from. I wanna remember."

Allie didn't know what to say to that, she was there for over two years and any thoughts of her previous home and family vanished when she both of those things found in Glade. Chuck was there for only a month, so of course he felt that way. "I know what you mean," Thomas murmured.

With Chuck's next statement, his eyes were filled with a bleak sadness. "I used to cry. Every night."

"Yeah?"

"Like a pants-wettin' baby. Almost till the day you got here. Allie was there for me every night. Then I just got used to it, I guess. This became home, even though we spend every day hoping to get out." Allie patted his back.

"I've only cried once since showing up, but that was after almost getting eaten alive. I'm probably just a shallow shuck-face." Thomas admitted. "Allie was there for me too." The mentioned girl couldn't see Thomases face but she heard the slight smile in his voice.

"You cried?" Chuck said through the window. "Then?"

"Yeah. When the last one finally fell over the Cliff, I broke down and sobbed till my throat and chest hurt. Everything crushed in on me at once. Sure made me feel better, don't feel bad about crying. Ever."

"Kinda does make you feel better, huh? Weird how that works."

"I didn't cry for first few months when I got here. Not my first day, not my first night in the Maze. Not even when me and Alby had our first argument and didn't speak to each other until new Greenie came." Allie smiled thinking about that time when she and Alby didn't agree on where the Enclosures for the animals they asked for should be. What a petty argument that was.

"Then when did you?" asked Chuck and Allie knew Thomas was curious as well.

Allie smiled at Chuck and run her hand through his curly hair. "You know the crossed names engraved on the wall?" Chuck nodded and Thomas said 'Yeah' to let her know he was listening. "It was just me and Alby again. I was just sitting in the grass, refusing to move and Alby decided to make a bonfire. We were passing moonshine, that one of the boys named Stephen made, between us and it was just so... quiet." Allie's expression was completely devoid of emotion now. She stared off into the distance as she continued, as if her words had taken her back to that moment. "It didn't take long for me to start crying. After seven months of dry eye canals, a river of tears started to flow and there was no stopping it. One look at Alby, who was also crying was enough for me to let my sobs out. Come to think of it, I must have sounded a bit hysteric."
