at times like this, i remember the stories my mom told me about the universe. although it's cloudy, i can feel the stars. i've always felt stronger at night, but for the first time in a while, i felt excited about the future. because now, i knew where i was going.
i knew that it was cruel of me to feel so optimistic, but in my loneliness i couldn't resist. i remember spending entire days living in stupid fantasies. but now. as i lean on the side of the boat, with my hands in the water. i pray this dream won't end. because now, i wasn't alone
there were times when i am convinced i am unfit for any human relationships. but as i look around, i know that's nor true. at least, not anymore.
all i hear are the waves breaking against the small boat, and the ticking of the safe nami is trying to open.
luffy is hanging from the small mast, upside down. i can tell he is very happy with out things are going, i exchanged a smile with him before going back to the water.
"can you not do...that?" nami finally looks up
"sorry. it's hard to hold still," luffy jumps back down "i'm feeling so...piratey."
"yeah? well, you're gonna end up feeling watery if i have to throw you overboard." nami says angrily "i told you i need absolute silence."
"i know i know, absolute silence" he smiles, he pauses for a moment before speaking again"it's just that this is my first real pirate score, can you believe that!"
"Yeah, I can, because you told me right after you asked me, yet again, to join your crew."
"good job luffy, we work well together" i smile at him
"we do make a pretty good team" luffy grunts and the lock clicks. he places his head on top of namis head. she gives me a look that says 'can you believe this' and i just shrug and laugh at it.
"is it open yet" luffy whines
"No. And can you please give me some quiet and some space?" nami scolds him. knocking of luffys hat, i run up and catch it for him. i hand it to him with a soft smile.
"thanks y/n! you're the best" he smiles brights at me, before returning to look at nami with a frown, "Hey. Not cool. Don't mess with my hat." i've never seen him be serious, like ever.
"Why do you care so much about that old thing?It looks like you fished it out of the trash." nami says, not even looking up from her task.
"One man's trash is another man's treasure." he smiles fondly at his hat. zoro groans from inside the captains quarters.
"Will you two knock it off? I'm trying to take a nap." he monotonously states.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Were we interrupting your beauty sleep?" nami voices sarcastically.
"sorry zoro, didn't mean to do that," i look at him guilty, feeling bad. nami looks at me incredulously confused why i should apologize.
"it's fine y/n..you didn't do anything" he gives me a smile...well what i think is a smile? it's more of a quirk of the lips. all before speaking to nami, "Don't like what you see? Look away." soon after the lock clicked again, indicating the safe has been opened. i get up from the side of the boast i have been inhabiting, and quickly rush to the safe to see what was inside. would it be gold? coins? some pretty necklaces we could pawn?
"that's so cool nami! how did you know how to do that" i say excitedly, hugging her. surprisingly, she hugs back and smiles at me. but doesn't answer my question.
"You did it!" luffy exclaims. as we look inside all we see is some wanted poster for a guy named 'kuro' and a map case. i look up confused. zoro walks over and stands behind me.
"That's it? Isn't there supposed to be gold inside a safe? Or jewels?" zoro voices my exact thoughts
"This is more valuable than gold. It's knowledge. This is a map to the Grand Line"
"The Grand Line. Ah. The Grand Line is just right... Where is it exactly?" luffy asks.
"You're going there, but you don't know where it is?" nami exclaims dumbfounded by his stupidity.
"Guess I need a navigator on my crew." he says slyly, i giggle a bit.
"i mean how hard can i be to find? and why is there only one map of it? that doesn't make any sense, no copies. like at all" i say confused. nami just walks into the captains quarters, and we all follow. she places down the map and explains what's exactly the grand line is
"The seas are divided into four quadrants. East Blue, North Blue, West, South. This thin strip of land that circles the globe is called the Red Line, and this band across the middle is the Grand Line. A treacherous stretch of ocean with bigger islands, bigger cities, bigger pirates." she explains throughly. "flushed with riches, ripe for the picking"
"and that's where we're going to find the one piece!"
"I've taken out a lot of pirates looking for that thing." zoro asks
"What is it exactly?" i speak up.
"it's gold rodger's treasure! he hid it somewhere in the grand line, all in one peice" luffy says
"oh so that's why it's called the one piece? that makes a lot more sense then what i thought" they look at me confused
"what did you think it was.." nami asks, her eyebrow quirked up
"uhm...defiantly not like a secret pizza recipe for anything...hahah" i laugh nervously. they (once again) look quite confused. while zoro and nami do, luffy looks quite interested in this pizza idea
"that doesn't matter anyways, it's a myth" nami states, changing the topic. "The reason no one's found it in 22 years is that it doesn't exist. it's about at real as the constellation witch"
"who's that," luffy asks
"it's some witch who can control the stars or something," zoro grunts
"she's more than that, if she was real. they say she can bring the stars to life. whatever that means," nami tries to explain. i start to fidget my bow. and look away from them.
"cmon, have some whimsy nami. it's only legendary until someone proves it's real" i say trying to change the topic. i really don't want to talk about this.
"yeah! i can't wait to see your face when we find it" luffy happily states. all of a sudden an explosion is heard in the distance. we all look up worried, and see red lights.
"is that the marines?" zoro asks
" how did they find us" nami worriedly states. we go to get a better look from the ships deck. smoke goes off around us, i grab the closets person hand in fear something may happen. i feel rough, calloused hands squeeze back. i don't look over at all, to preoccupied with the task at hand. i let go of the hand, quickly deciding what to do.
i realize something, how much i've changed from my childhood. how passive i've become, how i only manage and cope. i'm done being a scared little girl. while i do not fully trust the people to know my powers, if it saves our lives im willing to risk it. i grip my bow.
"this smoke smells weird" i hear someone mutter, my eyes become heavy as i fall to the wood. all i remember is red.
