The afterlife?
Treech...

____

It was dim. I was surrounded by trees. Just like the ones back home. Tall, green, and shady. Was I home?

The air felt crisp and clear, it was something I had never breathed before. I felt things I had never felt before. This couldn't have been home. It was better.

I felt light, as if I was a newborn who had never been exposed to the toxins of the world. I found myself smiling. My mind was free, and I felt free.

The ground made a satisfying crunch behind me, causing me to turn around. There was a figure, hidden in the lining of the trees.

But I wasn't scared. The person radiated a soft aura, just like someone I used to know. Just like Lamina.

I stepped in the direction, curiously eyeing the figure.

The person stepped closer, before being exposed to the beams of light that peaked through the tree leaves.

.

It was her.

My girl, my world, right in front of me.

.

Wasn't she dead though? I thought- wasn't I dead? Wait. What?

I pushed my thoughts aside. The girl of my dreams was right in front of me. Even if I were dead, I was dead with her.

My body moved before I could even think. I was running to Lamina, running to her opened, accepting arms.

We crashed into each other, tumbling to the floor. But it didn't hurt. The ground felt like clouds catching us, and I wrapped my arms around her tightly. She was in my arms, ali- and well.

"Oh my goodness-" she giggled into my clothes. I wanted to break down and sob. I thought I'd never see her again.

"It took you long enough." Lamina smiled, pulling her head up from my chest. She was wearing her reaping clothes, but this time she was clean. Cleaned better than ever. Dirt that would usually remain no matter how hard she scrubbed was wiped gone, and her hair was shining like a fire, the muddy patches brushed away.

Her clothes looked as if she came from the Capital, cleaned and smooth.

"How long were you waiting?" I asked, confused and pulling myself up. She smiled. "Never mind. Let's go." She grabbed my hand, pulling me upwards.

"Go where?" I stumbled, following her lead. She was guiding me now, just like I had guided her home, when we first met. Ironic.

"You'll see." Was all she said, before stopping at the tree lining. Around us, was a haze of light. It looked like a cloud, but with a brighter essence. I wondered what it was.

"Just trust me." She looked to me, before looking down to our interlocked hands. I smiled, before leaning over.

"I'll always trust you." I said, and with that I kissed her lightly on the forehead, just like I always did.

Lamina and Treech would soon be forgotten, only living in the memory of their remaining family.

The 10th hunger games would be deleted years later, erasing them from history.

They would last be remembered truly by Lamina's brother, who later died at the hands of a peacekeeper.
