Quietly, I push the bedroom doors open and peek my head out. The hallway is clear. Flinging open the doors, I dart into the hall and stick to the side, inching forward in the shadows. After the match, the guards had lead me directly to my previous bedroom and locked me in. Why? I have no idea. A few minutes ago, they left to get something, leaving me the chance to escape (after picking the lock).

I have to kill Aeron tonight. Knowing him, he'll hold the wedding as soon as possible (as he had rushed in all the matches). I refuse to marry the bastard, much less have our wedding night. My body physically shivers at the thought and I pause at a corner, checking for anyone before jogging through it. On top of that, that damn witch from the match knows everything now. She's not to be trusted. From what I saw of her character, she'll one: notify someone; two: tell Aeron himself; or three: blackmail me. I can't let that happen, not until after the assassination. After tonight, my life is over. His followers will search for the killer and track me down through my scent, so it won't matter then.

Thankfully, being the genius I am, I was able to sneak in my dagger when I had first arrived for the competition along with a small jar of holy water. At the time, I didn't realize how much this would aid me. Since Aeron is a hybrid, he has a weakness. It doesn't matter that he's one of the oldest vampires, he's still not a pure blood. All witches/wizards can be poisoned by betony, an herb that was used in the past to repel witches specifically. If I can find betony in the kitchen (it's a castle, it has to have everything possible. Plus, this herb is generally used as a medicine; the servants make medicine for the royals to keep them safe) then I can mix it with the holy water to make a paste to wipe over the blade. The mixture will react to the blood that Aeron still has running in his body from being part wizard. Along with that, the dagger is my last enchanted weapon, which will help destroy the vampire side of him. My only problem is stabbing him through the heart.

The kitchen doors finally meet my eyes. Quickly scanning the area, I trot up to the doors, them cracked open, allowing the light from inside to shine into the dark hall. A servant sits in the corner, having fallen asleep while doing the dishes. A breath of relief passes my lips. What luck, first the guards being careless, now the kitchen being free of anyone who could catch me (I'll just have to be quite to keep from waking the servant).

I push past the doors and walk over to the rack holding the jars of herbs. My eyes frantically scan the labels, searching for the right one. Not long after I start the search, I locate the herb I need. Without hesitation, I whip a hand out and grab the glass jar, carrying it over to the nearest counter. Beside the jar I place the holy water and blade. Pouring a heap load of the herb into the jar of holy water, I reach into a cabinet near me and dig around until I find a thin object with a flat end. I pull the object out and stick it into the glass, mashing the mixture together until it forms a thick liquid. Carelessly, I place the object down and pour the mixture onto the blade. My hands work to rub the liquid paste over the metal. When I believe it's sufficient enough, I grab the holy water and scamper from the room, checking one last time to make sure the servant is still asleep.

Outside in the hall, I lean against the nearest open space of wall and breathe in deeply. It's now or never. Shoving off, I race through the halls to the throne room where Aeron should be. Having memorized the layout of the castle, it doesn't take me very long to reach the elegant doors.

With quick movements, I pass through the doors and end up on the other side of them. Before me, Aeron's body lays across the throne in an awkward position, his chest facing up. I chuckle at the scene. This is almost too easy. With him asleep, he's left utterly defenseless (the guards are all outside to keep enemies from entering the castle, not realizing that the enemy is already here).
