Rukawa mirrored the glare of the person who was staring back at him.
At the other side of the gym sat his redheaded teammate, Hanamichi Sakuragi, who just finished practicing his dribbling skills.
The Shohoku Basketball Team's manager, Ayako, a girl with luscious curly brown hair, tapped Sakuragi's back with a large white paper fan as if to congratulate him for the good work he had done.
"Good job, Hanamichi Sakuragi!!" Ayako beamed, hitting Sakuragi's back with the paper fan playfully.
Sakuragi managed to finish his dribbling sets without being stubborn, and, luckily, Sakuragi didn't make a scene while practicing-- for Takenori Akagi, their team's towering captain: the tallest member of their team, would've decided then and there to scold him and smack his head.
A flashback of Akagi's loud and intimidating voice replayed in Sakuragi's mind every time he thought of something childish.
"Argh, Ayako-san!" Sakuragi crossed his arms, huffing, "When can I do a slam dunk? I WANNA DUNK A BALL!"
Upon hearing the words slam dunk, Akagi turned his head abruptly toward Sakuragi's direction, and he pointed a finger at him, non-verbally telling him to behave.
Sakuragi clicked his tongue, then turned to face Rukawa, and glared at him again.
"The hell is that douahou's problem?" Rukawa thought to himself after seeing Sakuragi's glare.
Rukawa wasn't paying attention to the cheers of the girls who were standing by the door. The three girls were completely gushing over him, and the trio was the same one who picked a fight with Sakuragi before.
Rukawa was eyeing the door for one reason though: he was looking for Kaori. Though he only saw her visit the basketball gym once, he was wondering why, in the days that followed after they'd done the essay, he didn't see a glimpse of her after their last subject ended.
Usually, when he rides his bicycle home, Rukawa sees Kaori on Shohoku grounds, walking until she can hail a cab just by the school's gate to take her home.
