Y/n: Oh sorry, I uh, I was distracted I guess.
She eyed you strangely before noticing the phone in your hand. That sparked a look of realization in her eyes as she nodded and waved off your apology..
Orange: It's fine. Have they announced about the job yet?
Y/n: No, not yet.
You couldn't keep the nervousness out of your voice, but an arm wrapped around your shoulders shoulders left you blushing as Orange gave you a supportive hug. It was a simple gesture, but it did wonders helping alleviate the worries you'd been feeling up to this point. However it did create a new problem in that you were now feeling a bit desperate to hide your pink face, luckily you had the perfect distraction to change the topic.
Y/n: Enough about that though. So what'a in the bag? Did Sheldon get your splattershot fixed.
Blinking at the sudden switch in conversation, Orange nodded and dropped her arm from around your shoulders to lift up her shopping bag. Internally you were thankful for the chance to let your face cool off, before eyeing the bag curiously
Orange: Nah. He said he could fix it, but it'd be an overnight thing. So in the meantime he's rented me a replacement.
Y/n: Oh that sucks. But whatcha get for a replacement? Like a roller or something?
She paused for a moment, suddenly looking very sheepish as she hid the bag behind her back with a nervous grin.
Orange: Um... A surprise?
You raised an eyebrow which only seemed to make her look more embarrassed as she gestured down the street.
Orange: Well we should probably get going. Red and Kuro are probably wondering where we are.
The mention of your other friends made you pause and check your phone, only to gasp seeing the time.
Y/n: Oh crud your right. We better be going or we're gonna be late.
With that the two of you took off and made your way through the streets before catching a crowded bus to take you downtown. Due to how crowded it was, you found yourself having to share a seat with Orange by sitting on her lap which was surprisingly comfortable save for how every hole and bump in the road had you bouncing in her lap or how after a bit you felt something pressing against your butt. But you were too engrossed in listening out for the splatfest results to really pay it any attention, so when it reached your stop you got off without another thought and a blushing strangely stiff Orange shuffling close behind you.
Hitting the streets, you and Orange walked your way down the block following the sight of the battle lobby tower in the distance. The imposing structure was a city landmark and central hub for Splatsville's turf war scene, however instead of going straight there you turned at an intersection and continued for some ways until you spotted a pair of familiar figures waiting outside of a coffee shop.
There names were Kuro and Red, a pair of octoling twins who were your other closest friends besides Orange. The two were almost identical save for personality and the namesake color of their tentacles. You couldn't contain your smile as you and Orange sped up, lightly jogging to meet them the two sisters who noticed and turned to greet you with a smile.
