————————————————Annabeth's POV————————————————

She didn't know why, but seeing him with Rachel always got her worked up. She wasn't angry, that wasn't quite it, she couldn't place the feeling. She just knew the feeling would disappear when he broke off the conversation and walked up to her. And like all other days, Percy was getting closer and closer to where she was waiting for him so that they could walk home. But today, he didn't break off his conversation with Rachel immediately. Instead he tucked a strand of Rachel's crazy red hair behind her ear, and though she wasn't one for such flirty gestures, Rachel smiled, and Annabeth couldn't bear to watch anymore, kissed Percy. It was a quick peck, but it felt to Annabeth like a knife through the heart. Afraid that she would cry, she put on a cold face and began walking home by herself.

Confused, Percy ran up to her.

"What's wrong?" he asked, with a cock of his head.

        "Nothing," she replied stiffly.

        "Aww, come on. Tell me."

        "Nothing!"

"Yeah, right." She just shrugged and looked away. Not talking to him. After five minutes of silence, Percy obviously couldn't take it anymore and spoke up.

"Just tell me, silence, it's worse than anger."

"I said, nothing! Would you just leave it?" she snapped, annoyedly, and seeing that they'd reached her house, began to walk inside.

"Fine, then. Two can play this game." Without another word, Percy walked off, kicking at stones on the road. She did feel bad, but more than anything, Annabeth was hurt. Hurt that Percy could be so dam oblivious to how much she liked him. So she went to bed that night with no regrets. Just hurt and, the emotion she had finally named, jealousy.
