CHAPTER EIGHT

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

Daisy Jane let out a startled scream when a sharp weapon went through the door, nearly getting her, but she scooted back.

"Come out, Daisy Jane. It's your turn!"

Daisy shifted so she was on all fours, crawling through the air duct. Inside was very hot, her sleeves sticking to her arms and her hair sticking to her face. She crawled and crawled until she halted when she noticed a tiny hole. Below her stood Coral and Treech, the two engaged in a conversation.

"Coral, I think she's above us." She heard Treech whisper.

Coral chuckled wickedly. "Oh, is she now?"

Daisy Jane reached for her boot, pulling the compact out. She opened it, pouring the rest of the white powder out. All of a sudden, a trident stabbed through the air duct, but Daisy was quick to move away and avoid being stabbed. Coral laughed below, continuing to stab her trident through, desperately wanting Daisy dead.

Daisy screamed when the air duct suddenly collapsed with her still inside. She didn't waste a second to get back up on her feet and start running with Coral and another tribute right behind her.

The three froze when a huge drone appeared above them, a large container hanging from it. The wings to the drone caused strong wind. It was so strong that it almost knocked over Daisy Jane's small figure.

The drone placed the container down before flying away, leaving everyone staring at the container, wondering what was inside.

Wovey suddenly appeared, the young girl walking up to the container. "Is it over?"

"Wovey." Reaper called to her, but she ignored him. "Wovey, get away from there."

"Can we go home now?" She asked.

"Wovey, darling, come to me." Daisy said to her softly, taking a step forward.

But she stepped back when the glass broke, millions of snakes pouring out and tackling Wovey to the ground. Daisy Jane's eyes widened and she turned, sprinting away from the snakes.

Daisy hurriedly climbed up the piled rocks. She turned around and saw Coral was behind her, snakes already slithering around her body.

"It's not fair." Coral said, her eyes staying connected with Daisy's. "I can't have killed them all for nothing."

And that was the last thing she said before the snakes killed her.

Daisy scooted back as the snakes slowly slithered to her. She looked around to see if there was anyone else, but it was only just her.

Which meant she won.

"You're headed for Heaven." She sang, continuing to scoot back as the snakes continued to slither towards her. "The sweet old hereafter. And I've got one foot in the door. But before I can fly up, I've loose ends to tie up right here. In the old therebefore."

She paused, snakes now slithering up her legs and her arms. She kept her eyes on the snake slithering around on her dress as she went back to singing.

"I'll be along when I've finished my song. When I've shut down the band. Played out my hand. Paid all my debts. Have no regrets right here. In the old therebefore. I'll catch you up when I've emptied my cup. When I've worn out my friends. When I've burned out both ends. When I've cried all my tears. When I've conquered my fears right here. In the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore. I'll bring the news when I've danced off my shoes. When my body's closed down. When my boat's run aground. When I've tallied the score. And I'm flat on the floor right here. In the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore." She stopped, snakes continuing to slither around on her as she glared straight at the camera. "When I'm pure like a dove. When I've learned how to love. Right here, in the old therebefore. When nothing is left anymore."

She looked down to see the snakes slithering themselves off her. She snapped her head up when she heard the gates open. Dean Highbottom and two peacekeepers walked in the arena, not bothered by the snakes slithering around on the ground. The peacekeepers began to shoot them as Dean Highbottom walked up to the pile of rocks Daisy Jane was on.

"You can come down now, Daisy Jane." He told her.

She didn't say anything as she carefully slid down the rocks.

"I have some questions to ask you." The short man said, seriousness in his voice. "And I want you to tell me the truth."

Before Daisy Jane could say something, the two peacekeepers aggressively grabbed her by the arms and dragged her towards the entrance of the arena.
