The Witch

I dreamt of the four shadows. Each with distinct eyes that pierced the darkness in which they stood. All of them ancient. All of them uniquely vile.

They towered over me with cruel malice, but made no move to touch me. They just stared at me, waiting.

I opened my eyes. My body was twisted in my sheets, sweat beaded on my body. It was still dark out. The moonlight shimmered through the sheer curtains of my bedroom.

I looked around my room, the feeling of dread weighed on my chest. I narrowed my eyes at a particularly dark corner, nearest where my bookshelf would be.

Then the floor boards creaked as if something heavy moved across it.

I scrambled to reach over and turn on the light, but something yanked me back onto my back. I let out a horrified scream as a heavy body settled itself right above mine.
"What a lovely little bedroom you have, little witch," the demon mused, his red eyes igniting into flame as he gave a devilish grin.

I frantically try to kick myself free, but he uses his weight to push me back down. My silky nightgown rose up my legs, exposing my bare lower body. He gripped my wrists.  I shut my eyes tightly, my breathing fast.

This isn't real.

It was all I could do to comfort myself.

"What do you mean this isn't real, Coralynn? Of course it is," his voice was full of mockery.

"None of you can physically get past my protection spell," I ground out. "You're just playing mind games with me."

"Speaking of games," he purred, "how about a round of would you rather."

"How about no," I growled.

He clicked his tongue. "That's not an option, Coralynn."

"I don't care," I spat. "I'm not playing."

"Not even if get you the one thing you desperately need?"

"And what's that, asshole," I ground out.

"Why don't you play and find out, little witch? You can't say no to a little surprise, can you?"

A low chuckle rumbled from his throat as he let go of my wrists. Slowly, I raise my upper body off the bed with my elbows.

Through the dim early morning light, I could see his frame. Strong musculature. Strong jaw. Eyes that wanted to devour me whole.

"Fine. Go," I concede.

Then there was the smile that seemed to cut the dark. It was a lopsided smile that proved to me how cocky he was in this moment. He thought he had me backed in a corner.
