It was a sight no child would ever want to see.
"Dad... Dad!!"
Desperate to be close to him, after restless hours of waiting, Juhyeok stormed towards the bed, climbed up and threw his arms around Taehyun.
"W-Woah, easy Juhyeok."
"S-Sorry... Dad, you're okay," the little boy wailed, sniffling as he tightened his hold around his neck.
Taehyun closed his eyes at the warmth Juhyeok's body emitted to him, placing one hand on his back to stroke him comfortingly.
"I'm here Juju... are you okay?"
"K-Kind of... I didn't get very hurt."
"That's good..."
Quietness fell between them as Juhyeok collected himself, and only sniffles came out of him.
In the distance, you could hear the traffic from the streets. A few dogs barked on the sidewalks, followed by some music blasting from stores.
Night was already falling onto Seoul, and the sun was bidding goodbye to the city, waiting for the moon to greet it instead.
But none of that mattered to the pair.
All that was important to them was the fact they survived this accident, and were reunited once again, after what seemed to have been an eternity.
"Is Yerim okay?" Taehyun asked.
The little boy nodded.
"Mhm... even though she kinda broke her arm."
"Oh no."
"The doctors said it'll heal soon, so she's okay. Taeyeon and Baekhyun came, so she's with them."
"Good to hear... I'm glad I could keep you both safe to some extent."
Juhyeok bobbed his head, only partially agreeing due to all the pain, shock and fear it brought him, and sniffed.
"Does it hurt?"
"What does?"
"Your leg, your stomach, your head. The nurse told us everything, and how you were at the risk of being in a coma..."
Taehyun exhaled.
"Nothing your dad can't deal with."
Because you've dealt with so much already.
The silence that followed was suspenseful.
Something big was coming in their way.
Something that would change their entire relationship.
Something that would make a difference in everything that has happened so far.
"I thought you would die."
Taehyun let out a soft gasp.
"Juju..."
"I was so scared that you would leave me! That you would instead join Mom and make me live the rest of my life without you, the only one I've ever cared for!"
The brunette needed a moment to understand what his son was trying to say to him.
"Juhyeok... w-why are you saying this—"
"I never cared about Mom!" Juhyeok blurted out, sitting up to face his father.
Another gasp, this one louder, left Taehyun's lips.
"W-What?"
It was all coming out.
His true feelings about his mother, whom he never met, were being revealed and uncovered.
