A Touch Away (Insecure!Levi x Reader)

Start from the beginning

Just everything about you sent his heart ablaze, like the sun burning bright and forever upon the sky. But admittedly, seeing so many young men, glamoured and decked out with far better suits and looks, the memory slipped from his mind.

It escaped and left the gates agap, allowing something bad, something terribly bad to creep through and slip its ugly self inside.

On the other hand, you were standing beside several men, some looking as if they were bound to die within the next few minutes, while some were young, around your age but fairly ugly in their own right.

Levi saw them, their eyes lustful and their faces held pure desire for you. His legs shifted from his right to his left, and he adjusted his white cravat made from his late mother's dress. His calloused fingers brushed his skin, scarred and aging.

How could he feel this way? He wondered. Feel like he didn't deserve you when you've been together for quite a while?

Perhaps it stemmed from his childhood, of the perception of his worth by the way he upheld his dominance over others. Back then, in the Underground, he was the strongest, sweeping in unheard, stealing, and destroying the lives of those he needed to. But up above, he didn't realize just how minute and weak he was in the face of real power.

To be titled as Humanity's Strongest Soldier can only do so much. And what it didn't entail was ridicule, resentment, and the exposure of people better than him.

Their ability to escape the wrath of the public because of their wealth, unscathed by the people because their importance was far greater than their crimes, had made Levi see the world as cruel- terribly, terribly cruel.

But worst of all, he had no wealth, no nothing but himself he could offer to the world and to you...his dearest and most beloved.

Levi couldn't even offer to you what most woman desired, an intimacy far beyond a kiss or a touch across the face. The subject made his skin crawl, made a lodge settle within his throat, and fear to run along his face. He was afraid to do such a thing, and seeing- god, seeing the way those men lusted over you, and their ability to give you everything you could ever want? He felt weak, so damn weak he couldn't stand.

Noticing the door to the balcony, vacant and inviting, he slipped away, unheard and unseen as he'd always been during these events. He was invisible. He was forgotten.

Meanwhile, you were conversing with the men, enjoying your time as you possibly could before you were surprised by a fellow nobleman's inquiry.

"Ms. (L/N), if I may ask, do you plan to marry anytime soon?" He sipped his wine, cautious to present himself elegantly with his brown tailored suit and excessive jewelry. Though it does not hide the fat that expanded past his belt.

You crossed your arms, placing your weight to one side of your hip. "My...that's quite a question to ask, isn't it, Mr. Torez?"

He laughed, a bellied kind of laugh. "Well, I must know before I decided to compete with these men here to take you for the night."

You furrowed your brows, an uneasy feeling settling into your heart. "Excuse me?"

"Isn't that what you're here for?" His eyes narrowed suddenly, the folds of his suit tightening . "You women are here for the same reason, so whose it going to be? Me? Or my friends here?"

Your eyes followed as each and every one of them licked their lips and attempted to excite you with a lustful gaze. You were unsettled.

"I apologize, Mr. Torez, but I'm not here for that- that sort of service." What was this? Why had you stuttered?
