Florence wakes up to the sound of her mum bustling around downstairs, getting ready for the day. She sits up and blinks blearily at her alarm clock to see the time, 6:02 am. Yawning and stretching over her nightstand to reset her alarm which had been set to go off at 6:30, she resigns herself to the fact that she is much too awake now to go back to sleep.

30 extra minutes isn't long enough for her to truly get more rest anyhow.

Climbing out of bed, Florence slips on her pink panther slippers; last year's birthday gift from Amelia who had decided that Florence absolutely needed them after seeing the show for the first time. Amelia had never seen a cartoon before, much less anything on a 'Television', so she had quickly become obsessed with the sly pink cat.

Florence shuffles lazily over to her wardrobe and pulls out her favorite purple striped shirt, along with a pair of well-loved jeans and her brown corduroy jacket. Well, her dad's brown corduroy Jacket. It fits her extremely loosely, but she refuses to use any other jacket. This one keeps her the warmest. She lays her outfit down neatly onto her desk chair and makes her bed before leaving her room to head downstairs.

As much as the two O'Connor women bicker and fight, the morning has always been an agreed-upon truce time. In part, because both Marjorie and Florence are too sleepy to deal with each other, and partly because, for all of that they do fight, Marjorie still always makes sure that Florence has an actual breakfast to start the day- and Florence makes sure to eat it.

It's one of the few small things that remind Florence that her mother doesn't entirely hate her. That, and Marjorie refuses to 'raise her daughter on that sugary cereal nonsense'. Florence is just happy to be able to sit with her for a bit and not feel her disappointed stare weighing down on her the whole time, even if it doesn't last.

"Here, sit and eat. Coffee is on the counter in the pot if you want any." Her mum places a plate of scrambled eggs, toast, cut-up fruit, and sausage down on the table in front of where Florence stands.

"Okay, thank you mama" she mumbles sleepily as she turns to the counter and takes her faded 'I heart Ireland' mug from the cabinet and fills it with the still steaming coffee. Ironic, that she hates it here- but it was another gift from Amelia, so she kept it.

She takes a seat at the table and begins to pour copious amounts of cream and sugar into her mug. She can feel her mum's judgmental look at her actions but neither of them says anything about it.

Florence knows her mum prefers her not to consume so much sugar, and her mum knows that Florence won't listen. It's a battle she had miraculously gotten her mum to give up on, something Marjorie Erin O'Connor rarely does.

"Your friend's dirty Pigeon left a letter for you on the kitchen window by the way. Thankfully it left before I started cooking. Birds are filthy creatures." Marjorie mutters over her own coffee cup.
