Your POV

"There you are!" I heard someone say as I walked down the aisle to my seat. "I was wondering when you'd get here."

I straightened up quickly when I realized who was speaking to me.

"I'm Sabrina," she pulled me into a hug, before sitting back in her seat. "You're stuck next to me tonight."

I laughed and sat next to the blonde girl.

"I'm not complaining. I'm Y/n. It's great to meet you."

Yea. It was GREAT to meet her.

"Are you excited to perform?" She asked me as we both got comfortable.

"I'm so excited," I said with a bright smile.

She let out an excited squeal and it made me laugh.

"I'm sorry. I just love when people get excited about things that they love."

How was I supposed to get through tonight without proposing to her?

"You've got to take my number. We should be friends," she said as she pulled out her phone and I put my number in it before allowing her to do the same to mine.

"What song are you performing?"

"I'm performing blame's on me," I spoke, sliding my phone back into my pocket. "I'm not sure if you know it."

She rolled her eyes.

"Duh, I've heard it," she spoke, joking since the single we were speaking of debuted number one on the billboard hot 100. "It's going to give me goosebumps when you hit that high note. I'm so excited to watch."

"Are you nominated for anything?" I asked her, kind of wanting the attention off of me for a bit.

"No, I'm not," she spoke, turning towards me slightly. "I'll scream super loud when they announce you for New Artist of the Year, though."

I was about to respond when there was an announcement over the intercom and everyone began heading to their seats.

"Is this your first VMA?" She asked me with a bright smile.

She was so kind. My heart was melting.

"It is."

"Well, it's about to start."

We both turned our attention to the stage. Things were starting to quiet down and the crew was moving into position. My stomach did a little flip. I was excited.

Although, I hadn't been to a VMA before, I had been to other award shows. It seemed to flow exactly the same as all the others I had been to.

Sabrina answered any questions I had, which was nice of her since she definitely didn't have to.

I felt like everything was a blur up until Ethan coming to get me from my seat during a commercial break.

"I need you in your seat for the next twenty minutes," he told me.

"You couldn't have texted me that?" I joked, since he literally got me out of my seat to tell me to stay in it.

"I was already down here because they're getting your things together back stage," he rolled his eyes. "Just stay in your seat until I come get you to get ready."

I saluted him before turning back around to go sit down. I could tell Sabrina was wondering what that was by the look on her face.

"He told me to stay in my seat," I giggled, sitting back down where I was previously.

I basically saw a light flicker in Sabrina's head when I said that, but just when I was about to ask there was announcement that the show would be resuming momentarily.

The next award was... new artist of the year. I tried not to allow my anxiety to consume me as Dove Cameron walked out onto the stage to announce the nominees.

"GloRilla..."

"Ice Spice..."

"Renee Rapp..."

"Y/n Y/ln..."

My stomach was turning. I fully expected Ice Spice to win, honestly.

"And the winner of Best New Artist is..."

"Y/n Y/ln!"

I started clapping, not realizing that it was my name that rang through the speakers. Sabrina was the only reason I came to my senses since she did in fact scream super loud.

I stood up, taking my time to walk up the steps. I did not need to fall right now.

I might've prepared a speech if I thought I was going to win, but it looks like I was winging it. I gave Dove a hug and thanked her when she handed me the moon man.

"Wow."

Okay, you can do better than that. I waited a second for everyone to stop screaming so I could continue.

"Honestly, I didn't expect to be up here talking to you guys right now. I want to thank my manager Ethan and my producer Ryan. You guys have helped me make this music. This award is just as much yours as it is mine."

The crowd erupted again.

"Thank you to all of you guys out there that support me everyday. I love you. Thank you to my label as well. You guys always believe in me."

I only had one more thing to say.

"Shout out all the other nominees in this category, too."

And with that, the crowd erupted into applause. I turned to see Dove was clapping and smiled as I walked side by side backstage with her.

"I'm shaking," I spoke as we walked behind the curtains out of the cameras view.

"You better get used to it," Dove laughed. "I feel like you're going to be accepting awards for a long time."

I was about to answer when I saw Ethan approaching me.

"Thanks for the shout out, kid," he laughed, giving me a hug. "You deserve this."

He took the moon man from my arms before continuing.

"You've got to get ready. I'll hold onto this."

I shook my hands by my side, taking a deep breath. I got this.
