Kaida was dreaming again, she was dreaming about him.

Kaida moved on the bed, feeling an empty and cold space next to her. It was late at night, all the Palace was in silence.

She got up from the bed letting her feet touch the cold floor and walked towards the light of the candle from the war room finding him there, he was wearing his pajama but his head was buried on a map. She walked towards him and gently touched his hair.

"Hey," he said looking up at her.

"Hey," she said with a sleepy smile. She surrounded the chair and sat on his lap. "Why didn't you come to bed?" she asked, looking at his features.

"I couldn't sleep," he said, hugging her waist.

"You haven't slept well these last few days. What's going on?" Kaida asked.

"The same as always. The Fold. The Fjerdans..." he explained.

"Then, if it's the same as always, you should sleep. You are not going to be able to rule an army if you are tired. Come to bed with me," he smiled at her and gave her a small kiss. "I will help you to sleep," he seemed to think about it. "Alexander Kirigan, you need to sleep. Come to bed with me or I will force you," Kaida said, looking at him seriously.

The Darkling smiled again and nodded. "Okay, let's go to bed," Kaida smiled at him and stood up from his lap.

They walked towards the bed and both layed down. Kaida got ready to summon her small science.

"What do you do to make me fall asleep?" he asked while Kaida introduced the small threads of purple mist on his head.

"I just force your mind and your body to relax, making you fall asleep," she explained, seeing how his eyelids were closing.

"Mhm," he murmured, almost asleep.

Kaida smiled. "Good night," she put her head on his chest and fell asleep him hugging her waist and her his torso.

Kaida opened her gray eyes, finding herself in a room she didn't recognize.

"Finally, you are awake," a voice she could recognize everywhere said. "How are you feeling?"

How was she feeling? she was feeling weak, all her body hurted, she was feeling as if her heart had stopped and started working again.

"Weak," she whispered. "What happened? Where are we?"

"We are at The White Cathedral, The Apparant hiding spot," Jake answered.

"The Apparant? That traidor?" Kaida never liked him, she never trusted him.

"It was the only place where we could hide and you could rest," he said.

"What happened?" Kaida asked again.

"After Mal and I pulled you and Alina away from The Darkling we went through the tunnels. You and Alina were really weak. Tamar and Tolya had to make both of your hearts beat again, we thought we lost you, both of you," Jake said with sadness. "Alina woke up, but you had been unconscious since the battle, it's been more than a week,"

"How is Alina?" Kaida asked worriedly. "How are you? How is everyone?"

"You can ask them, if you can stand up," Jake said. Kaida looked at him, she really didn't know if she was going to be able to stand up but she still nodded and sat on the edge of the bed, Jake next to her in case she fell.

She stood up feeling her legs shake but she didn't allow herself to fall.

"I'm fine," she said, giving him a smile.

"There is a thing you need to know before," Jake said.

"What is it?" she frowned.

"Your hair, the end of it now it's white," he said.

"What?" Kaida asked amusedly, walking towards a mirror.

"Alina's hair is completely white. It seems that the thing you did to kill The Darkling took more from you than you both thought,"

"Well, what's done is done," Kaida said looking at the white tips of her hair. "Let's go,"

They walked out of the room they were staying and Jake guided her to where all her friends were.

"Kaida!" Mal said, surprised to see her.

"Hello everyone," she said. Her gaze stopped on the girl with white hair. Alina. She looked tired. "How are all of you?"

"As best as we can be," Zoya answered.

"Yeah, me too," Kaida said with a weak smile.

They stayed a few hours talking and enjoying each other's company until Kaida started to feel too tired and decided to go to sleep.

🍁🍁🍁

Kaida was laying on her bed, she could feel something was different inside her, but she didn't really know what, but she was sure something changed inside her.

A knock sounded on her door.

"Who is it?" she asked, sitting on the bed.

"It's Alina," she whispered from the door.

"Come in," Kaida said. Alina entered the room quietly and walked towards her. "What happen?"

"I want to talk with you,"Alina said. "You helped me to try and kill The Darkling and part of your hair is also white. I wanted to ask you, are you able to summon?" Kaida looked at her confused.

"I don't know, I didn't try it. Why? Alina, what's happening?" Alina looked at her, as if she wasn't sure about telling her.

"I can't summon, my powers are gone," Alina said. Kaida looked at her shocked.

"What?" she couldn't believe it. Maybe that's why she felt different, maybe it was that, maybe she couldn't summon either.

"I want to know if you can," Alina said.

Kaida looked at her and nodded. She lifted her hand and called her small science. The purple mist appeared in her hand making her breath in relief, but then the purple mist turned black and it started surrounding them. It looked exactly as the one's he summoned. It looked like shadows.

Kaida looked at Alina with fear.

"Shadows," Alina whispered. Kaida made the shadow disappear and summoned again, purple mist appeared but mixed with threats of shadow. "How— You can summon both," she said in shock.

"What are we going to do?" Kaida asked.

Alina looked at Kaida amused and worriedly. Kaida was capable of summoning two different types of small science now.

Now Kaida wasn't just an Empathic Grisha. Now Kaida also was a ...

Shadow Summoner.
