Birthday

Days went through and today was Nikolai's birthday. Kaida was excited, the royal family would have dinner to celebrate it, and she was really excited.

It was early in the morning when a servant told her that the prince Nikolai had called her into his room. She walked towards it and knocked at the door.

"Come in," Nikolai said.

"Good morning," Kaida said with a smile. "Happy birthday,"

"Thank you,"Nikolai said with a smile approaching her. "How are you?" he asked.

"I'm fine," Kaida answered.
"Did you sleep?" he asked worriedly.

"A bit, yes," she answered. "But today you can't worry about me," she said with a smile.

"I will always worry about you," he said.

"Whatever, I have you a present," Kaida said with a smile.

"Really?" Nikolai said excitedly.

"Yes. It's not really much but I wanted to give you something," she said, pulling out a small box. "You once gave me a ring to remember you, I wanted to give you something to remember me," she said nervously. Nikolai opened the little box finding a gold ring with a N in the middle. "Look inside it," Nikolai looked inside the ring and saw his favorite quote written. "When people say impossible, they usually mean improbable,"

"I love it," he said with a smile, putting the ring on his finger. "I also have you a present," he said.

"It's not my birthday," Kaida said with a smile.
"I didn't give you anything for your birthday, so you could consider this as your present," he said. He pulled out from his jacket a ring.

Kaida gasped in shock. "You kept it," she said with a bright smile on her face.

"Of course I kept it," he said. It was her ring, the one that he gave her years ago.

"Thank you so much," Kaida said with a smile after Nikolai put the ring on her finger.

"I think you are the only one that gave me something that I like for my birthday," Nikolai said inches away from her.

"I'm glad you like it," Kaida said, putting her arms around Nikolai's neck.

"I'm excited to see you tonight," he said with a smile.

"I don't even know what I'm going to wear," she said.

"You don't have to wear anything," he said, making Kaida laugh out loud.

"You wish,"

"Yes, I do," he said before pressing his lips against hers in a deep kiss. Kaida moved her fingers towards Nikolai's hair and started playing with it. They broke the kiss and looked at each other's eyes. "Can I ask you something about the other day?" Kaida looked at him for a few moments and then nodded. "Why did you come to my room? I mean we fought that morning and we haven't talked in months. You could have gone to Jake's, Zoya's or even Alina's. Why did you come to mine?"

Kaida looked at him, she wasn't sure she was ready to answer that.

"We said no more secrets between us," he said.

"A secret for a secret," Kaida said, looking at him. "You tell me a secret and I answer you question,"

"Are you really making a deal with me?" he asked with a smile.

"Yes, a secret for a secret," she insisted.

"Okay, then. Let me think...I broke my engagement with Alina. I already talked to her," Nikolai said leaving Kaida speechless.
