"Mommy, can I hold Willow?"

"Yes. Go sit on the couch"

——

The next Friday Logan and I went to a party my grandparents were having. I was a little hesitant to leave all 3 kids with Elise when the babies were still so young but she assured me that she could handle it and I did trust her. Along with the mine and Logan's cell phone numbers and my grandparents home phone number (yes, they still had one in 2021), Paris told me I could give Elise her number. If anything were to happen Paris could get there in under 10 minutes. And obviously Logan and I would head back right away, but we were 2 hours away so it was comforting to know that Paris was there if Elise needed her.

I found myself talking to some women that were in the DAR with my grandmother. The women were probably closer to my age than my grandmother. If I had to guess I'd say late 40s or possibly early 50s.

"So, do you have kids?" One of the women, Kendra asked

"I actually have 3" I told her

"How old are they?" The other woman, Tiffany asked

"I have a 4 year old daughter, and my twins are just a little over 2 months old"

"Aww, I bet they're adorable" Tiffany said. "Who do they look like?"

"Other than each other?" I asked. Tiffany nodded. "I'd like to say they look like me, but I think they probably look more like my husband"

"Is he here?" Kendra asked

"Yeah, he's..." I looked around to see if I could find Logan. "Ok, I don't know where he is, but he's here somewhere"

When we got home, I was exhausted. That was our first night away from the kids since the babies were born, and it was a lot more draining than I was expecting.

"Straight to sleep?" Logan asked once Elise left.

"I have to pump first" I told him.

"Ok. I'm gonna go check on them"

The twins were born a little premature and in the winter so we never really took them anywhere, other than on walks, for the first couple of months. The first time we really took them out somewhere was on Sunday, to a bookstore so we could see my new book (I always liked to go see the displays), and then it wasn't too cold so we went to the park so Tori could play.

I was sitting on a bench with the stroller and Logan was playing with Tori when someone walked up behind me. "What are the odds?"

I turned around to see Jess of all people. The last time I saw him was at my mom and Luke's wedding in 2012.

"So which one's yours?" He asked

I looked around for a second to see where exactly Tori and Logan were. "Purple jacket. Monkey bars" I told him. "And obviously these two" I gestured to the stroller that held Aria and Willow who were asleep "Is one of them yours or are you just a creep who hangs out at playgrounds?" I joked

"Mine is the one who won't wear a jacket" he said. There was exactly one kid at that park without a jacket. "So how've you been? It's been a while"

"I'm good. Tired"

"Comes with parenting" he said

"Yeah. So what about you? I didn't know you got married" I said. For the record, I didn't assume he was married because of the kid, he had a wedding ring.

"I could say that same about you" he said.

Just then Tori came running over. "Mommy"

"What?"

"Daddy can do monkey bars" she said excitedly.

I laughed a little. "I know"

"Without falling"

"Ooh, that's cool. Maybe he'll teach you"

"Yeah" she nodded and I watched her run back over to Logan.

"She's cute" Jess said. "And she looks like you"

"I think you might be the first person who's ever told me that"

"Really? People think she looks like your husband?"

"My ex" I said

"I'm sorry, but can I ask?"

"Ask what?" I asked. I wasn't sure if he was gonna ask if I was divorced, or why Tori calls Logan daddy.

"She called him daddy but he's not her father?"

"He is" I told him. "Not biologically, but in every other way, he's her dad"

"That's nice"

"Yeah"

I sat talking to Jess for a little while until Logan walked over with Tori. "This kid has way too much energy"

"I made daddy tired" Tori giggled

I wasn't so sure that it was Tori who made Logan tired as much as the 2 babies that wake him up screaming in the middle of the night.

"Jess, this is Logan" I said. "Logan, this Jess. Luke's nephew"

"Nice to meet you" Logan said.

"Yeah, you too"

It turned out that Tori and Jess's son Jax had been playing together earlier and we ended up all going for pizza before heading home.

Logan's POV-

After getting Willow back to sleep I rejoined Rory in bed and put my arm around her waist, pulling her close. "You know what I was thinking?"

"What?" She asked

"We should take the kids to Martha's Vineyard this summer, before you go back to work" I said. "I think Tori would like the beach"

"I love that idea"

"We can go for as long or as little as you want. We can invite Honor and Josh, or our parents. Whoever we want, it'll be great"

"It will"
