CONTENT WARNING:
There is a mildly graphic scene here where the protagonist, as well as some monsters, are injured. There are descriptions of blood, flesh wounds, all that good stuff. Also, there are mentions of like sexual tension or whatever, so I'm gonna reiterate here that there will be no explicit content in this fic.

"...so, you and that Rito Champion, huh?"
You looked up from your poorly scrambled eggs, eyes heavy. You'd been up most of the night, keeping watch. Or really, hanging out with Revali. You'd talked into the early hours of morning, speaking of your journey or the recent developments in the Champions' defense from the Calamity (whatever that was).
You never asked what exactly was going on, but it was clear to you that people were scared, and Zelda played a very important part in the whole thing. The rito wished you well and left as the sun began to rise, leaving you to drag yourself back down to camp. You were exhausted, but there was still work to do and you were rather hungry. Your comrades were gathered around now, staring as you sluggishly looked at them. "...Huh?"
"He seems a little cocky for my taste," your comrade continued as he chewed. "But hey, I won't judge."
"What are you talking about?" you asked plainly. He looked at you with a raised eyebrow, as if to say "You know what I mean". Conversation halted around you, all listening in. Nosy bastards. "Seriously, what??"
"Aren't you and him a thing? Don't play dumb."
You stared at him blankly, shocked. Where'd they get that idea? Everyone looked rather proud of themselves, as if they'd uncovered a long kept secret. It was... irritating.
"No, we're not... I mean, we're friends. Just friends." you waved them off, sounding more defensive than you would've liked.
"Gonna be real with you guys, he's kind of hot! Like if you don't want him, I'll be happy to take over." said another, a bashful smile on her freckled face. You recognized her from the day before. She still seemed pretty friendly, despite your attitude. Ugh, you should really clear some things up with her. Either way, the group erupted in laughter at her comment. "Oh, come on! He's charmingly rude."
The person sitting next to you, Russ you recalled, poked at his food and rolled his eyes. "He's also a bird!" You didn't realize your impaler had come as well. There's so many people over here right now, its actually a bit hard to keep track.
"So? What's wrong with that?" The woman shrugged, obviously not giving a shit if he was rito or not.
"I mean, I can kind of see why you'd think that, but I always like more humble and down-to-earth men." said another soldier, polishing his shield. Conveniently, you knew of him as well. I mean, how could you miss him? Bruno was like a giant, towering over everyone in camp. He looked up with a little smile, almost cutely. "Feels more genuine."
A brief pause among you. "...wait, Bruno, you're gay?"
Did he just out himself? You rushed to break the silence before it got too weird.
"Uh— Listen, guys," you huffed. "I am not in a relationship with him. We're friends, I think." The soldiers exchanged knowing looks, obviously not believing you.
A man with a mischievous grin leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. "You do realize that friendships can sometimes turn into something more, right? We've all seen it happen before."
Everyone nodded in agreement, nudging at you playfully. You felt your face heat up as they teased, and you crossed your arms, feeling self- conscious.
"Am I the only one here thinking this is weird?" Russ exclaimed, exasperated. "They're a hylian, he's a rito. Get real."

Fanfiction"At least you have me to keep you company, huh?" you remarked, looking up at the rito cheekily. The flame licked at the bottom of the pot, crackling quietly. Revali only stared at you, feigning annoyance. "Oh, don't give me that look," You scoffed...
