The Yule Ball was coming up at Hogwarts, and Y/N was becoming more and more demoralized by the second. Everywhere she looked, someone was attaining a date to the Yule Ball. Everyone that is, except her. There was no doubt about it, Y/N certainly couldn't live up to the beauty and reputation of the Beauxbatons, but she was still one of the prettiest and nicest girls in (your Hogwarts House) and all of Hogwarts... so how come no one had asked her yet?

The truth was, almost every other boy who wasn't a Gryffindor had wanted to take their shot with Y/N. But the Gryffindors made sure they didn't go near her in order to help one of their own: Neville Longbottom.

Neville had had a crush on Y/N since first year. But he was always so nervous around her, that whenever he tried to talk to her, he would end up embarrassing himself. After he heard about the Yule Ball coming up, he had told Dean, Seamus, Ron, and Harry how much he wanted to ask Y/N out, but he knew that once he worked up the courage, she'd already be taken.

So, Neville's roommates did the only sensible thing they could think of: Scare away all of the boys who tried to ask Y/N to the ball. They spread the word to the rest of Gryffindor house, and they all pitched in to help keep the other house's boys at bay while Neville prepared himself to ask Y/N out.

And today was the day.

Y/N sighed and rested her chin in her hand as she picked at her mashed potatoes in the Great Hall. She looked up when she heard some squealing coming from the doorway to the hall.

"Yes Draco, of course, I'll go to the Yule Ball with you!" Pansy cried, wrapping her arms around an annoyed-looking Draco.

At least I'm not going with either of them, Y/N thought to herself.

"Ahem, uh, Y-Y/N?"

Y/N turned when she heard someone call her name behind her. Neville walked over to the (Your Hogwarts House) table and approached Y/N. His arms were behind his back, and he looked extremely anxious.

"Hi, Neville. What's up?" Y/N asked.

Neville's eyes widened. "You know who I am?"

Y/N chuckled. "Longbottom, I've been going to school with you for four years, of course I know who you are."

Neville nodded. "Right, right, how silly of me." He swallowed nervously and glanced back to his roommates, who were standing at the end of the table. They all smiled and gave him a thumbs-up. "I-I was wondering if I c-could ask you something."

Y/N shrugged. "Ask away."

Neville inhaled and straightened. He held out some flowers that he'd been hiding behind his back. "Y/N... will you be my date to the Yule Ball?"

Y/N's jaw dropped as her heart inflated. Someone asked her to the ball! And not only that, but it was Neville, the sweetest and cutest guy at school. "Neville..." Y/N stood and took the flowers. "Yes!"

She hugged him, and the entire Gryffindor table started clapping and cheering for Neville's success that they had all been working towards. Neville's face turned bright red as Y/N pulled away. "Oh, Neville, thank you! This is going to be so much fun! Just wait until you see my dress!"

Fast forward to the day of the Yule Ball. Neville had just finished getting ready.

"Neville buddy, you look a little green," Seamus commented as they went down the stairs to wait for their dates.

Dean was with them as well, giving Neville a smug look. But he looked up the stairs, and he gasped. "Neville... your date is here."

Neville was stunned as he looked at Y/N.

Her dress was beautiful, and her makeup was wonderfully done

Her dress was beautiful, and her makeup was wonderfully done. Neville couldn't stop staring as she walked down the stairs and held out her hand to him. He took it and placed a kiss on it. "You look brilliant, Y/N, like a rose under the starlight."

Y/N blushed. "Thank you, Neville. You look like... a uhm, a... well, I'll leave the similies and metaphors to you. You look very handsome."

Neville chuckled. "Thank you. Now, what do you say we go dance?"

"He's quite good at it, he's been practising up in our room alone for weeks!" Seamus teased.

"That's so sweet!" Y/N said. "Oh, and Seamus, Dean, you'd better stop ogling me, I think your dates are here," she added.

Sure enough, Lavender Brown and Susan Bones descended the staircase, looking very angrily at their dates.

"Come on Neville, let's go," Y/N told him, allowing Neville to lead her out onto the dance floor.

They danced for what felt like hours, and they both enjoyed every minute of it. When they were finally tired of dancing, Neville got them some food, and they enjoyed a nice, quiet, albeit cold meal out on the balcony.

Y/N shivered, and Neville noticed, so he gave her his jacket. "Is that better?"

"Very," she said, putting her arms through the sleeves. She scooted closer to him on the bench and rested her head on his shoulder. "This is perfect," she muttered quietly as they stared up at the stars.

Neville picked a (your favourite flower) from a nearby arrangement and placed it in Y/N's hair. "You're perfect."

Y/N sat up and wrapped her arms around Neville. "You mean it?"

Neville nodded. "Of course I mean it."

"I know you do, I'm just messing with you." Y/N laughed. "But in all seriousness, I think we have potential, you and I. Do you agree?"

Neville grinned. "What? Er-I- yes! Yes, I agree."

Y/N chuckled. "You're so sweet, Neville," she mumbled before leaning in and kissing him. Neville seemed surprised at first but quickly kissed back. When they pulled away from each other, he sighed contentedly and pulled her onto his lap so they could cuddle as they looked up at the stars, the perfect ending to their perfect night.
