My hand trembles a little, as my arm hovers over the wooden door. I hesitate, taking a deep breath and closing my eyes for a quick second. I let out my breath and let my fist fall on the door a couple times.
I quickly shove my hands back into my jacket pockets, taking a step back on his porch.
The cold air bites at my bare face, and i try to warm myself up as I wait. I stare down at my feet, my hair falling in a curtain over my face.
At that moment, the door opened, and my head shot up. My eyes meet a pair of sweet, blue ones, and I manage a small smile.
"Luna?" Aaron asked, leaning against the door. He looks confused, with a small hint of happiness that I was there.
"Hey, Aaron," I say, and I can feel the pressure between us. How did this weight manage to push its way between us?
"You," he looks me up and down, "you okay?"
I shift my weight on my feet, moving from foot to foot. I glance down, but up at him again.
He sees me shivering, and moves a little in the crack between door and door frame.
"You want to come in?" he asks, gesturing inside.
I shake my head, knowing I didn't want to stay here longer than I have to. As soon as I accepted my invitation to be a pro.
"I was going to call," I tell him. He moves closer to me, shutting the door behind him. I notice he is in a baggy t-shirt and plaid pajama pants, and I try not to laugh.
Aaron crosses his arms over his chest, his eyebrows drawing down with interest in what I was saying.
"But," I continue with what I was saying, "I felt like I should tell you in person."
He nods, and I can see the impatience in his eyes. A smile crawls across my face, with my confidence growing.
"I got a letter in the mail today," I say, "they want me to become a professional racer."
Aaron's confusion melts away, replaced by a smile. He lets his arms fall away from his chest, rushing closer to me and wrapping his arms around me.
I'm taken aback by this for a second, but soon give into his response and press my face into his shoulder, the smell of his cologne filling my nose.
Gosh, I missed these hugs.
Aaron pulls away from me, his smile still plastered to his face. Seeing how happy he was made me happy, happier than I expected this trip to go.
"Wow," he says, rubbing the little bit of stubble that was along his jawline, "I can't believe this... my girlfriend, the pro racer."
His smile only grows bigger, as he takes in the concept of the whole thing.
"When do you start? Where is it?" he asks. I chuckle a little.
"As soon as I accept there invitation, I'll have to travel a little north of Los Angeles," I lift my arms a little and drop them down again.
Aaron looks into my eyes, his smile slowing starting to disappear. I turn my stare down at the ground.
Then the idea hit me. My head shot up , and he looks at me expectantly.
"You wanna come with me," I say, throwing out the idea, "to the race track?"
His smile begins to reform.
"I'd love to."
