Five Elders= Gorosei
"So that's all that happened," Kuzan said as he caught him up to speed. Kaito bit his lips until the metallic taste of blood shrouded them. He leaned back agaisn't the bed, crossing his arms in an iron embrace, as he attentively listened
"So he's not willing to change his mind. At all?" Kaito asked again, as his vision blurred
Kuzan slowly shook his head, sympathetically
"That's okay. That's okay. That's expected. I knew that." Kaito replied after long minutes of silence
"You knew it was going to happen?" Kuzan wondered and Kaito immediately nodded his head
"My father has never been the persuading type. He's always been awfully stubborn and close-minded. A simple talk with him will never change him. I guess I just forgot that." Kaito replied, quietly looking out the window as he breathed deeply through his nose
Then they went back to their usual talks. It was a pathetic attempt at forgetting all that happened from Kaito's end but he tried it anyways. but Kuzan wouldn't let it go. He needed to know what would happen, what there was to do
"We have two possible options. Either you stay here and you fight for your innocence. Keep in mind, it will be hard and suspicion will linger for years. No one knows how long the trial will last, because while the Gorosei are usually determined and decisive, they are aware that this trial will drive the admirals apart so they won't know how to act. It's quite possible they either take one side or they stall and try to find another solution. It's up to you whether you want to take that risk. The second option is safer but it's obviously worse for you" Kuzan explained, to Kaito who was sitting on the floor with his arms around his knees
"The second option is you drop everything now, and we take you to an island where you will lay low until who knows what happens. You will be safe and protected by Garp but you will of course leave everything behind. I didn't want to give this option because-" Kuzan explained
"Because you knew I wouldn't want to leave my home behind," Kaito said in a quiet tone as he looked up at the man and Kuzan nodded to that.
The silence grew thicker and thicker until it became a barrier-like mist. Every time the birds sang, his mind screamed in frustration. He wanted to wallow in self-pity desperately but he knew it was wrong. This was his life so he needed to adjust to the change- it had, after all, been years since his father had changed.
"I want to stay here and fight for my innocence. I can't leave everything behind. I've lived here all my life- every happy memory I've ever had is here. I need to stand my ground- I'm not a child who needs to be protected anymore- I'm 15. That's what I want to think" Kaito replied quietly, in a tone that was akin to a poisonous flower. His face looked pained with the illusion of determination but it was actually the incandescent glow of fear
"But I'm scared. I can't face my father again. Not this time. He not only thinks I tried to murder his wife but he thinks I assaulted her. I'm a dead man if he sees me." Kaito whispered and Kuzan shook his head
"I'll protect you. I'm an admiral after all." Kuzan replied and Kaito could only hope that was true because if not he'd be on his own
"Thank you, Kuzan. I appreciate it, more than you know." Kaito replied thankfully, as he looked at these bandages
"Do your ribs hurt again?" Kuzan asked and Kaito immediately shook his head
"My ribs don't hurt at all. I've just got a stomach ache" Kaito lied, somewhat smoothly without even changing his expression
"And yet you haven't eaten yesterday. I've realised you threw the bowl of soup I gave you straight into the plants." Kuzan chuckled slowly.
"It's because it had no taste" Kaito retorted weakly, his own voice being
"Geez kid, is it that hard to say you didn't want to eat? But then again, whether you're being honest or not, I don't know because I did have a different chef cook you the food," admitted Kuzan while Kaito had a weak laugh in response
"I can see you need to sleep. Goodnight." Kuzan whispered but the child was already snoring.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Akainu. This is simply unfair. You can't expect us to" Sengoku argued
"I don't care. I'm telling you what will happen if you let the elders be in on his side. That's it.' Akainu boldly stated, fixing his hissing eyes on Sengoku, expecting him to relay the message through the den-den mushis as he walked out of the room
Sengoku had a downcast look on his face and a bead of sweat came down his face as he wondered what he would do
"I don't care as long as it doesn't affect the power balance. Losing the admiral would affect the power balance hugely. Aokiji isn't bold enough to hold a strong grudge to leave the Marines, while Akainu clearly is." One of the Gorosei considered from the den-den mushi when he reported to them
"It is indeed true that Aokiji is far less likely to hold a grudge strong enough to leave the admirals. I think he'd get over the assassination and continue to be a marine admiral. I don't think his care for that boy goes above his duty."
"Screw this. Why do we need to order something agaisn't the child? Assassination is always an opportunity. We have CP9 to do the job." one of the Goresei argued
"I believe it'll be too obvious if we murder him. Surely Aokiji would notice." another one replied through the den-den mushi
"We can always do it while he's away. He will blame Akainu for the death, rather than us, so he'll always be loyal to the Marines and the World Government. He's going to be filled with bloodlust towards Akainu but that's not our problem." one of the Gorosei spoke. His voice twisted its head into everyone else's head and they all paused
"This is disgusting. You want to kill an innocent child because it's more convenient for you." Sengoku gritted his teeth, knowing his options were limited. These men were his superiors and held all the power in their little stainless hands
"It's a little sacrifice for the greater good. You know full well that if Aokiji left the Marines and joined the revolutionaries it would be extremely problematic for all of us. The power divide between the marines and the pirates would become too big to be ignored and the revolutionaries would be boosted. The chaos that erupts in the world would overwhelm the World Government and you Marines." he paused before speaking again
"Or it's one measly little forgotten child, who's lived a hard enough life already and someone who doesn't claim as his child. We're practically taking the child out of his misery and in doing so we gain Akainu's unwavering loyalty- his hatred" he finished apathetically while eating
'These men are so heartless. Talking about his life like it's a piece of food on their plates and like his life is worthless' Sengoku thought helplessly as he clenched his fist
'I need to do something. I can't let that happen' Sengoku thought desperately
