ii. first day of school

                                    

                                          
"Good morning Jade!" My mom said as I walked downstairs. "Do you want something to eat before you go to school?"
"No mom I'm good, thank you" I put on my shoes and tied them. "Ok. We'll have a good first day alright" she said kissing my forehead and giving me a hug. "I'll try my best" I said smiling.
I grabbed my bag and put it on my shoulders as I started walking down the street. The school wasn't to far away. I'd say about three blocks. When I got there, I saw a big sign on the wall that said DERRY HIGH.
And I saw another one from the police department saying REMEMBER THE CURFEW 7 P.M. uh, just great. I thought to myself rolling my eyes. 7 pm? What are we babies. And what kind of town has a curfew?? Dumb as fuck.
I walked over to the entrance of the school but didn't go inside. I just looked around from the outside. They're were a lot of kids there. Maybe even more than in my school in California. Then why the hell do the streets always look so empty. I then remembered the curfew.
"INCOMING!" A boy yelled. Before I had time to turn around I fell on the ground. "Oh sorry didn't mean to". The voice said. I looked up and saw a boy my age with black hair and glasses. And was wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Ew....
He held his hand out for me and I grabbed it. "Oh you're fine" I said dusting myself off. "You're new here?" He said adjusting his glasses.
"Yep. I live about three blocks away from the school".
"Oh cool. I'm richie" he said holding his hand out for me to shake it.
"Jade!"
"Damnit Richie does... everything have to be a competition". A small boy said hella out of breath. He took out his inhaler, shaking it and taking a puff. As two more boys came on their bikes. Two tall boys, one with short straight brown hair. And the other with curly brown hair.
The boys put their bikes away and basically just started yelling at him for god knows what. "AHEM". Richie said dramatically catching the boy's attention.
"Boys don't be so rude. Do you not see this beautiful lady in front of us. Be a gentleman and greet yourselves". He said the last twin sentences in a British accent.
"Oh sorry. I'm Eddie". The small boy said. "This is Bill and this is Stan". Stan waved and gave me a smile, I smiled back. "H-hi n-nice to meet you" bill said holding out his hand for me to shake. "Yeah stuttering bill and Stan the man. And of course, you can't forget Eddie spaghetti!" Richie said. Must've been an inside joke...
"Richie shut up" Eddie said hitting his arm. I laughed. Typical friend group. I hear an engine revving and I look over my shoulder. It was the same blue trans am from yesterday. They parked in the parking lot and got out. Revealing the same four boys from yesterday. "That's the bowers gang" Richie said. He's must've caught me staring. "That one's Henry, their leader. That's one Victor, that's one belch a-
"Belch? That's his real name" I asked cutting off Richie. "No his real name is Reginald. But trust me you don't wanna know why they call him Belch.." Eddie chimed in. I thought about it for a second, "ew.." I muttered. "Yeah and like I was saying. That one is Patrick. Stay away from him"
"What why?"
"You don't want to know. It's just better if you stay away" Eddie says. "Shit they're coming over" Richie says once again hitting Eddie's arm. The four boys behind me panicked as Henry and his friends came closer and closer. "Well well well, what do we have here?" Henry said stopping right in front of me. "L-leave us a-alone Henry" Bill said in a quiet voice.
"I wasn't talking to you B-b-bill" Henry said mocking Bill's stutter. I look at Bill and he had no expression on his face. This was probably an everyday thing for them and they got used to it. "Anyways, what's your name?"
"Jade.."
"Well Jade. I'm Henry" the rest of the boys came up behind him. I took a quick look at Patrick as he was already staring at me. I was still wondering what was so bad about him. I mean yeah they're bullies. But what was so bad about him that I had to stay away from him? He looks mean, but it looks like he really has the potential to be nice. "It's very nice to meet you" Henry says grabbing my hand and kissing it. "I have to go but I'll see you around pretty girl" Henry said winking at me as he walked away with his friends.
"What the actual hell was that" I heard Richie say behind me. "He obviously likes Jade. Great. Now he'll be around us more cause of her. Oh, no offense Jade.."
"Hah, you're fine". The bell rang for us to get to our classes. "Oh well. Gotta go. And before you go to class Jade, I suggest you wash your hands" Richie says and then disappears into the school. I then figured out that I have my first class with Eddie. I was super relieved. Maybe this little town isn't so bad...
