Chapter 13: You Pick It

                                    

                                          
"LET'S PLAY A GAME!" Sam yelled. I ran down the stairs and met everyone in the living room. 
                          
"I say we play a game called You Pick It. It's where everyone writes a task and puts it in a cup or hat. Then one at a time everyone picks a task out of the cup. Then one person reads their task and dares someone else to do it. For example, if I picked 'jumping jacks' out of the cup, I would have to dare someone to do it. If the person says they can't do it, then they get a consequence chosen by the person who asked the task. If they do the task, then they use their task to dare someone else. Any questions?" Sam explained. Everybody said no so we started. We all wrote down a task and put them in.
                          
"I'll go first." Sam said and picked a task. Then, in a random order, everyone picked a task. 
                          
"I pulled 'dance' so I'm gonna give this to Jc." We all laughed and Jc started dancing. It. Was. Hilarious. 
                          
"Okay, my task I pulled was 'sing'. I'm gonna give this to Katie." Jc said. Everyone looked at me.
                          
"Song?"
                          
"Thinking Out Loud." Kian suggested. I nodded my head and stood up. I took a deep breath then started.
                          
"When your legs don't work like they used to before

Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?" I sang my heart out. It felt good. It reminded me of singing on the plane. And how much fun I had. It also reminded me of Sadie.

And we found love right where we are" I faded out on the last line. I got applause and sat down.
                          
"Amazing. We will have to sing together at my next concert. Which, as a matter of fact, is in a few days. It's a tiny thing I'm doing for LA. So you will be singing with me." Ricky added. I smiled.
                          
"Sounds great. But I don't think I'm good enough to stand on stage with you." I looked at my lap. 
                          
"Oh honey, as much of an honor it is for you to say that, I would be honored to have you on stage." I shook my head no and kept my glance at the floor.
                          
"Yeah. Katie, you're wonderful. You're voice is amazing. You're awesome. People will love you. Maybe not as much as I do, but they will love you and your talent." Trevor said. I shook my head no, once again.
                          
"Katie, come on don't put yourself down like that." Jc stated.
                          
"You know, it's getting late. I'm just gonna go to bed now." I stood up and walked to the stairs.
                          
"Goodnight." I said and walked to my room. I was being followed by someone but I ignored it. I shut my door and climbed in bed. I felt a tear fall and then I couldn't stop the flow.
                          
I want to sing with Ricky, I just don't think I'm worthy enough. Ricky has talent and people love him. And they don't love him because they have to. I just don't think I can get up there and sing.
                          
I felt movement in my bed and looked over to see Trevor next to me. I moved over to him and he wrapped me in a hug. I cried into his chest and he rubbed my back. He started singing so I stopped crying to hear him sing. He sang one of my favorite songs, Wanted by Hunter Hayes.
                          
Of course the way he sang it made it seem like he was singing it to me. It was amazing. He should do a cover of it and video it for his channel. I smiled throughout the rest of the song. How did he know that was my favorite song?
                          
"Now can you tell me what that was about down there?" Trevor asked me.
                          
"Well, I've always been told I'm not worthy enough for anything. And if that's the case, then I'm definitely not worthy enough to step up on stage with Ricky Dillon." 
                          
"Well you are worthy enough for anything and you WILL step onto stage with Ricky and have the time of your life. And after Ricky's performance, you're coming up on stage with me. So be prepared." 
                          
"Thanks, Trev." I smiled up at him.
                          
"No problem, Sass." He kissed my forehead.
                          
"So um can you stay with me tonight?" I asked.
                          
"Sure." And then, we fell asleep.
                          
*****
                          
"KATIE! GET UP!" Ricky was yelling from downstairs.
                          
"Ughhh." I rolled out of Trevor's arms and fell off of the bed.
                          
"Ow," I heard laughter. "Trevor. Seriously it wasn't funny."
                          
"Yeah it was. Come on, lighten up." He climbed out of bed and stood next to me. He extended his hand towards me.
                          
"I'm not a morning person." I took his hand and he helped me up.
                          
"No kidding." He mumbled. 
                          
"I heard that." I started walking down the stairs.
                          
"You were meant to." He mumbled again.
                          
"Ughhh!" I screamed and walked to the kitchen. I hopped up on the counter and everyone's eyes were on me.
                          
"What?!" 
                          
"Um are you on your period?" Kian asked. Jc elbowed him. And he got a few glares.
                          
"If you wanna know.." I started saying.
                          
"Ew." Kian said and shook his head.
                          
"Um well now I know you and Trevor didn't do anything." Ricky said and continued stirring the eggs.
                          
"Just no. Let's not EVER ask or answer that qiestion again." Jc said.
                          
"Wow, Ricky. And ew gross, Sass!" 
                          
"Whatever!!" I rubbed my eyes and Ricky handed me a plate. 
                          
"Eat up because we're gonna be practicing some music today. Trevor you're invited to come practice too."
                          
"I'm down for that." Trevor answered with a mouth full of food.
                          
"Okay." I ate and ran up to my room to get ready. I put on pastel green high waisted shorts and a white croptop that has paint on it from when me and Sadie did paint twister. I put on my layer of mascara and tied my hair in a high ponytail with my curls from the bun loose. I strapped on my sandals and did a mirror check. I grabbed my phone and wallet. I ran down the stairs.
                          
"Ready." I said walking into the living room.
                          
"Let's go." Ricky said. He opened the door for me, and Trevor followed. We got to the car.
                          
"SHOTGUN!" Trevor yelled. I climbed in the passenger seat and Ricky got in the driver's seat.
                          
"Not cool, Sass!" He said when he got in. Me and Ricky laughed. I turned up the radio and we headed to practice.
