Ghosts Suck At UNO

Riya tossed and turned the entire night, unable to sleep as she waited for the cogs of their plan to turn into place the following morning. Therefore, it was no surprise to how Riya almost jumped out of her bed as soon as her clock ticked to eight am to get ready to leave towards Julie's house three hours later.

She could still hear her father in the kitchen fumbling with the dishes while she undid her plait from the night before for breakfast. However, as she burst through the hallway she found her father was not alone, Reggie was looking over his shoulder while he plated a sandwich atop the counter.

"Sandwich wouldn't have been my first choice... Toast could be a great alternative you know."

"Good morning?" Both Riya's father and Reggie perked up, greeting her with matching smiles, while her father finished off topping the sandwich.

"Good morning! We ran out of eggs, I'll pick some up on the way home."

"Sandwich is fine, thanks dad." Riya grasped at the plate before setting it down on the tables, trying not to bump into Reggie as she moved across the small kitchen.

"He spent ten full minutes staring at the fridge, I didn't know a fridge could be that interesting." Riya had to fight off the laugh rising her throat, muffling it down with a massive bite of sandwich while her father served her a glass of juice.

"Speaking of way home, I'm going to be late if I don't leave..." Her father checked the watch carefully tied to his wrist, eyes widening, while Reggie too lent over his shoulder to peer at the time.

"Five minutes ago," With the late switch flipped inside his head Riya's father rushed around the kitchen to collect his belongings before going to press a kiss to the top of Riya's head and running to shove his shoes on. "Love you don't burn the house down."

Riya chuckled, watching her father hop around the entrance as he struggled to get his still laced shoes on and the door open simultaneously.

"Bye dad, love you too," He gave his daughter one last smile before shutting the door behind him, Riya instead turning to focus on the still waving Reggie at the door calmly sat across from her. "What are you doing in my house?"

Reggie shrugged, leaning over the table to steal Riya's sandwich only for his hand to phase through, he had forgotten he couldn't truly eat.

"Luke says he comes here when he's bored. So I decided to try it out."

"And you thought he comes here to entertain himself by staring at my dad?" Reggie shrugged, watching Riya take another mouthful of her sandwich with a sorrowful look.

Riya would have to look into what foods ghosts could eat just to get Reggie to stop pouting every time he saw some sort of delicious food.

"Yeah?" Reggie answered as if it were the most obvious thing to stare secretly at her father doing his daily activities. "That's what I do with Ray, and it works."

Riya almost choked on her sandwich, blinking rapidly to try to shake the daze away. "I... I'm not even gonna question it."

She went back to her sandwich, Reggie leaning on the table with eyes cast towards the door.

"So where did he go?"

"Work. He's a cop."

"Your dad's a cop? That's so cool!" To Riya dealing with Reggie was like dealing with a thirty-year-old sharing a brain cell with an eight-year-old in the body of a seventeen-year-old, and in every sentence you'd get someone new to converse with. At least it kept Riya on her toes and made for some pretty amusing conversations.
