----------------------------------Giyuu's pov:
He was seriously, I mean seriously, loud. Sometimes, I'd catch myself daydreaming about inventive ways to make him stop talking – like, I don't know, cutting out his tongue or something. But you know what's funny? Despite all that noise, there was something about the sound of his voice that I sort of secretly liked. It had this rough, scratchy quality to it. I let out a sigh, shaking off that strange thought. So there he was, talking to Genya, just dishing out insults and calling him weak. Sanemi was putting on this whole tough act, like he didn't give a darn about his little brother. But the thing was, everyone knew it was just an act. Deep down, Sanemi cared about Genya a lot, even if he had a weird way of showing it.
Out of all the Hashiras, my favorite to observe was definitely Sanemi. He acted all standoffish and like he didn't care about anyone, not even his fellow fighters. But I could see through that, you know? It's like he was trying to hide his real self. I whispered to myself, thinking maybe he never really learned how to be nice or show affection.
Watching Sanemi was kind of intriguing. He was only a tad taller than me. His hair was this wild, unruly mop of white, and his eyes – this intense shade of purple that looked like they'd seen a lot. He had scars all over his body, and I knew from my observations that he wasn't exactly a fan of them. But honestly, those scars were pretty cool. They told a story of battles fought and challenges conquered. They revealed his strength and resilience.
Honestly, I can't even remember when I started liking him in a way that was more than just casual. He never seemed to be too fond of me, if I'm honest. He'd call me names like "loser" and say I was "arrogant" for keeping quiet. I just let those comments slide – it wasn't worth fighting over. If that's how he saw me, then fine.
"Why are you staring?" His voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I flinched a little. He was right there, looking at me with his scars giving him this tough, edgy look. But you know what? Those scars also made him look strangely attractive. "I like your scars," I blurted out before I could stop myself. My hand shot up to cover my mouth – I hadn't meant to say that out loud.
I braced myself for his anger, but it never came. Instead, he blushed – like, his face turned all red – and he touched one of his scars on his cheek. "M-mine?" he stuttered, looking surprised. "Yeah," I whispered, feeling my own face heat up too. "I- no one's ever said that," he stammered again, his gaze locked onto mine.
Sanemi being all flustered was something I'd never seen before. He didn't start yelling or anything this time. His eyes were sparkling, something I'd never seen before. Even his cheeks were red, and his hands were shaking a little. I just looked at him, realizing that I had hit on something he was hiding – this need for love and kindness that he probably never got much of. He never really had anyone show him that.
"You should be proud of your scars, Sanemi," I said softly, starting to turn away like I was leaving. "You never called me Sanemi before," he mumbled, but there was this tiny smile on his lips. I smiled back – it was probably the first time he'd ever seen me do that.
But then, his smile faded, and he looked all serious again. The sparkle in his eyes disappeared, and he was back to his regular self. My smile faded too, worried he might get mad at any second. Surprisingly, he didn't. "I have ohagi at home. Wanna come?" he asked, like he was inviting me over. That was definitely unexpected.
I stood there for a moment, not really sure if he was serious or not. Sanemi wasn't exactly the type to spend time with me. Most of the time he'd just ignore me or say something mean. But here he was, asking me to hang out.
"Are you coming or what?" he asked, sounding kind of impatient. I started walking, following him. The trip to his place was quiet, but it didn't feel awkward or anything. We just sort of understood each other, like we had this weird connection. Not even Sabito, my best friend, and I had that.
So, I ended up spending a few hours at his place. We had ohagi and chatted about stuff. It was the first time we really talked like that. And you know what? It turned out to be one of the best evenings I've ever had.
