Bang bang bang. Bang bang bang.
The sound of someone pounding on my bedroom door awakens me abruptly. I look at my alarm clock confused as to why someone is demanding I get up at only eight in the morning.
Quickly throwing on a pair of Nike shorts that were haphazardly laying in a pile of clothes on my floor, I run to my door. I twist the doorknob and pull open the barrier, only to be hit in the forehead by a tall, awkward blonde boy.
Stumbling backwards, I screech, "Puke! What was that for?!"
"I- I- oh shit my bad, Skye. I was still knocking. I didn't expect you to open the door. Like, I was thinking you were still asleep. And-"
"Stop taking," I interrupt, putting a hand up to my throbbing face. "Just, go sit in the living room I'll be out in a second."
"Okay, but get dressed and ready to go out for the day."
I look at Luke questioningly, but leave it alone and shut the door.
Hurriedly, I manipulate my hair into two french braids and smudge some concealer over my dark circles. Too lazy to bother with it, I decide to leave my face looking natural and head over to my closet.
A pair of high-waisted shorts that I just ordered off of Etsy catch my eye, so I pick an outfit to match. I hear Luke calling my name as I tuck my large grey shirt into the denim that clings to my waist. I rush to grab my black platform converse and stuff all of my necessities into a black leather backpack. Walking into the living room, I almost forget a pair of sunglasses.
Finally ready, I reach for the necklace that has yet to leave my neck. My finger traces over the rhinestones and engraving that cover the face of one of the heart pendants.
I haven't seen Michael in a few days, and a part of me wants to just go to his apartment and watch Netflix all day. He's been in the studio so much recently... The album is in the middle of being recorded and the boys have all vanished; the process being a long one.
Luke calls my name once again, so I run to my living room to find that the clumsy blonde boy isn't alone.
"We have a surprise for you," Michael blurts out.
A smile finds its way onto my face as the three of us start walking to Michael's car. My favourite thing about the boys is their constant surprises. Sometimes they're lame, but other times they're over the top. Once, they picked me up and we all flew to New Zealand to spend the day adventuring, but then another time we just went to a place that makes incredible fish tacos. The thought of a new adventure starts to get me excited.
Luke finds his way into the backseat while Michael and I sit up front. As Michael starts the car up, I begin to scroll through my music, trying to find a song to play.
"No no," Michael says, plugging his phone into the aux cord.
I turn to him and as I'm about to say something, he presses a finger up to my lips.
"You're gonna want to hear this," Luke chimes in, shutting me up further.
Suddenly, a heavy bass is blasting through the speakers. Soon, drums join in followed by two other guitars; one taking the melody, the other strumming basic chords. The song is fast paced and intense, instantly making you want to sing along to it.
A lightbulb suddenly turns on in my head.
"Is this-"
"Mmhmm"
"But I thought-"
"Some of it was recorded a while ago."
I turn to Luke for confirmation, but he only shushes me and points to the radio. Obediently, I face the front and listen to the rest of the song. As the final notes play out, I find that I'm speechless. The new album really is going to be their best so far.
