Blossom paced her hut. "A five year old dragonet shouldn't pace their hut stressing about school" her mother sighed as she spread her chilly white talons, admiring them. Blossom stopped and stared at her mother, the only Icewing to live in the rainforest.
Her mother and father said that their love was fate, but Blossom believed it was sheer luck that her father had been on patrol instead of another dragon who was unwell. That it was luck that he decided to broaden his patrol, and luck that she was strung unconscious from a strangler vine with deadly wounds. She still had the burn marks on her tail to prove it.
"Mother, this is the first time to leave the village, to leave the rainforest, to leave and meet dragons from other other tribes, half way across the continent. Of coarse I'm stressed!" she said staring at her mother.
The tribe had always accepted her the way she was, with her non changeable white scales and her pink Ombre other scales including the circles down her neck and body, her ruff, under belly, Lightly on her wings but only tinted, spikes down her back and on her whip thin tail, and the rings around her eyes. She only ever saw the Nightwings that came to give messages from the Nightwing village, but they always looked down their snouts at her.
What if the other tribes don't like me or worse, use me for their own benefit?
"Darling your going to be fine, and besides if no one likes you, you can always enchant them to be your friends." Mother said, smiling her gleaming teeth. "Mother! Why would you even say that? Enchanting others is wrong, I thought you of all dragons would know that!" Blossom said, shocked at even the thought of it.
It was true, Blossom was the first ever Rainwing to have the ancient power. Sometimes it felt like a curse, sometimes it felt like a gift. Her first ever invention was her gold and quartz necklace, which protected her soul and made sure she only ever used it if it was completely necessary.
She made a gift for her mother a few seasons ago, a opal earring that always protected her. Her Father was a healer for the royal family, so she never even bothered giving him protection, he never did anything dangerous anyway.
"It was just a thought..." Her mother said, looking slightly bewildered by being told no from her own daughter. Blossom began pacing again. After a few more rounds of pacing she stopped and strode over to her sleeping spot, reaching for a scroll on her rack. The scroll. The letter that confirmed her acceptance to Jade mountain academy, and her winglet... the Amber winglet.
She grabbed it and read it, reading over every little detail.
Dear Blossom,
We are very excited to inform you that you have been chosen to attend Jade mountain academy in the next two full moons time.
You have been selected as the Rainwing for our new Amber winglet.
Upon arrival please enter using the new entrance wing that is on the east side of the mountain. Our newest professor, Moonwatcher, will greet you and show you to your cave.
Please bring three blank scrolls, one small the other two large. You will be supplied with inkwells on your arrival and a sleeping space has been arranged.

We hope you shall be joining us for our next year.
Head mistress Tsunami
Blossom sighed as she finished, discovering that there were no new hidden details. Her stomach started to bounce around her body. She rolled up the scroll and placed it neatly back on the rack.
