I adjusted the strap on my backpack so that my skateboard wouldn't hit my thigh with every step. As I walked down the hall towards the front desk to get to the principals office, I thought over what I could possibly be have done this time to be called in. But I couldn't come up with anything.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw a text from Charlie.
Charlie 🐷: what the fuck did you do? its not even 10 minutes into class and you are already in the office!
Gemma: dude i have absolutely no idea! i cant think of anything that would get me sent here.
Charlie 🐷: keep me updated. this is a record for you.
Gemma: yeah i know.
I sat down in a chair by the front desk and waited to be called in. I only waited a few seconds before I heard a voice. "You can just go in."
I looked around and saw Ace staring at me. Ace was a sophomore with a dirty blonde mushroom haircut. His glasses covered his green eyes. I only knew him by name and had only talked to him a few times.
"Uh, ok?" I stood up and went to Ms. Park's door. Collecting my cool, I opened the door. As I turned to close it, I said, "Whatever it is, I didn't do it."
Turning around to face Ms. Park, I saw not only her, but another girl. Her blonde hair reached past her shoulders and her blue eyes were a shade that I could stare into forever. She was pretty cute. Especially with her attempt at pulling off denim on denim.
"You didn't do what, Ms. Morgan?" Ms. Park asked me. Her style was much too much like Ms. Frizzle for my liking. Her curly red hair was always up in a Ms. Frizzle bun along with her dresses always being very wacky. Today her dress was white with colorful flowers on it.
"I don't know. I just assumed that I was in trouble because that is literally the only reason that I am in here by the week." I said as I removed my backpack from my shoulder and set it on the ground. I then sat down in the chair next to the blonde girl. I am not ashamed of the lack feminine qualities that I have, so as I sat down, I did the weird man splay. Ok it's not weird. It's only weird for guys because they have something to show for it. I don't. While my Tomboy side was already showing, the girl next to me had her legs crossed and had excellent posture.
The girl looked at me curiously as I did the same to her. "Ms. Morgan," Ms. Park started.
"We went over this last year. It's Gemma!" I cut Ms. Park off.
Ms. Park sighed as she continued, "Gemma, this is Shay Rudolph." Ms. Park unnecessarily gestured to the girl next to me. Who else would be named Shay? A potted plant in the corner?
I nodded to Shay before looking back at Ms. Park. "Ok, not that I'm complaining or anything, cause I'm missing Mr. Rowe's class for this, but why am I here if not for me being in trouble?"
"Shay is a new student and needs to be shown around. Linda called in sick on the first day so I am going to need you to show her around today." Ms. Park looked at me expectingly as I gave her a look of disbelief.
"You want me, the literally definition of bitchy rebel, so show around Little Ms. Goody Two Shoes?" I was starting to wish that I had done something to warrant a normal visit here so that I wouldn't need to show Shay around.
"Hey! I'm not a goody two shoes!" Shay spoke up for the first time. Shit. Even her voice was enchanting.
I turned to face her, trying to ignore the fact that she was a walking goddess. "You are in a goddamn double denim outfit with your legs crossed! If you don't want to give off the impression of a rule follower, at least wear pants and not a denim skirt!"
Here's another thing about me. Being rude is a defense mechanism that comes a bit too naturally for my liking. It's one of my many ways that I attempt to push people away.
"That is enough Gemma." Ms. Park gave me a look of disapproval. It was a look I knew far too well. "You will show her around and be her guide. I please try to set a good example for her."
"If you wanted someone that would set a good example for her, you could have chosen literally anyone else!" I said as I stood up and looked down at Shay.
"What?" She asked.
"Let's go. If I'm going to show you around, let's get this over with." I rolled my eyes.
"One more thing, Gemma." Ms. Park stopped me.
"Jesus Christ, what?" I closed and opened my eyes in an attempt to calm down.
"Shay struggles with math and since you have no trouble with it, I want you to tutor her." Ms. Park then motioned for Shay and I to leave and I did so, gladly.
As I left Ms. Park's office, I began to walk back to class with Shay by my side.
This was going to be a long year.

I'm actually proud of my consistent updates! That is, if you can call 2 updates consistent. This one was a bit easier since it's mainly just Gemma and the introduction of Shay.
That's all for now!
Drink water and stay safe!
