86. Strip Lighting

Goodbyes are given out as everyone's plan is to go home and sleep, but Mapi and Kaia along with a few others head inside to the treatment room.

Kaia's fine, it was Mapi that needed some treatment to her calf so it wouldn't get worse overnight. It was a simple check, just diagnosing the cause of the pain and bruising so Mapi can take the right actions once she got home, and like they thought it was simply ice the area and keep it elevated to prevent swelling.

When Mapi exits the medical room, it's well into the early morning and only skeleton staff are here. But she sees her girlfriend texting away with someone in one of the chairs outside.

"Everything good?" Kaia asks as she stands and pockets her phone into her Barça puffer jacket, nabbing the car keys from Mapi's pocket.

"Yeah, just apply some ice like we thought. There's no underlining damage." Mapi explains.

Kaia nods in acknowledgment as the automatic doors open for them. "Ale's just been texting me, asking me if we're all ok physically and mentally." She chuckles softly.

"At least we're still at the top of the table on goal difference." Mapi sighs although she isn't pleased with the circumstances. She'd prefer it to be points that separate them. "One of us is going to have to blink eventually though." She says while unusually climbing into the passenger seat.

"I know what you mean." Kaia also sighs. "I was only on the field for ten minutes and I could feel the intensity was at another level. It must've been hell for you, you're probably mentally drained and in need of a cup of tea and a cuddle."

Mapi side eyes her girlfriend in the dark car, only the streetlights and the NAV display allowing them any light. She will admit that she's adopted some of her British girlfriends daily doings, and Kaia can make an amazing cup of tea that just settles her body and mind with the first sip. "I might fall asleep the second my head hits the pillow." She admits while rubbing her eyes tiredly.

Defending is definitely very taxing on the mind, it requires full concentration, organisation and communication, and then there's the physical aspect to add on top of that.

So yeah, Mapi's a little drained.

Kaia reaches over and gives Mapi's thigh a comforting squeeze. "Well we haven't got a game for another fortnight, so you can rest and recover at your own pace."

"I have to take Albus for his vaccinations tomorrow afternoon." Mapi's voice begins to mumble, which means she's about to fall asleep.

"I can take him." Kaia offers with a shrug.

But Mapi pulls a face in the darkness. "No, that man has an obsession with you." She refuses. It's not out of any jealousy, it's pure protectiveness because the vet who coincidentally always sees their cats is an older and creepy man who shamelessly looked Kaia over like a piece of meat right in front of Mapi when they first took their youngest cat to get a nutritional checkup.

Ever since the blonde saw that look that disgusted her, she's refused to let Kaia go alone because she genuinely has little faith in the male species. Only a select few have her trust.

Drawn out but productive team meeting done, recovery completed, home to rest.

Mapi had taken Albus to the vet like planned and surprise surprise, when that creep saw it was only her, she was passed off to a younger vet who was actually nice and helpful. The blonde didn't mind in the slightest, and she was glad for the softer approach when Albus got his booster jab and didn't seem to flinch.
