"Okay, and thank you, Leopard Queen," I reply with a smile, my thoughts turning to my upcoming meeting with Curtis and Muir.
"But I think Me and Darius will be doing fine on our own," I continue, thinking that this might be my chance to make my escape. Since we'll be meeting Curtis and Muir soon, I believe we'll manage the journey. I'm confident that we'll find Parker soon.
The queen notices the mud on my face. Her brows furrow in concern, and she gently touches my cheek. "Why is there mud on your face, dear? Let's clean that off first."
With the queen's assistance, I didn't clean the mud from my face, explaining as I do, "It's alright. I put it there on purpose during the beast tide so they wouldn't find me here."
The queen chuckles softly, her maternal instincts shining through. "Silly female, they're too far away now. The smell might indeed be too faint for them to find you here."
"Oh... then, I'll clean it in the morning, haha," I respond with a sheepish grin, hoping that the queen won't notice the true reason behind my reluctance to have my face fully revealed. It's better for her not to notice my face now, especially since in the future, they will meet Bai Qingqing and see her real face, and the deception we've woven will become even more complex.
The leopard queen sighed, then said, "I'll go and make some preparations." With that, she got to her feet and walked out from the room.
And as soon she returns with a steaming bowl of soup. She hands it to me with a warm smile, but I frown when I see that the soup is pitch black. Tentatively, I take a sip and wince at the bitter taste. "What's this?" I ask, my face scrunching up in displeasure. "It tastes bitter...."
Memi's expression turns serious as she replies, "It's abortion medicine."
I stare at her in shock, my mind racing to process what she just said. Suddenly, I remember the novel's storyline about Memi and how she had been mistaken for having been copulated with a feral. A sad smile tugs at my lips as I respond, pretending to be angry, "You should have told me before I drank it."
I glance at her, seemingly unpleased. What if it was really Curtis' child and happens for real? Of course, I would have been mad about that.
Memi, Parker's mother, speaks with a hint of warning in her voice. "This is just in case. If you were to give birth to that homeless beast's offspring, your children wouldn't have a father. You would surely regret it."
Suddenly, a throbbing pain grips my lower abdomen, much like the way Bai Qingqing experiences her monthly cycle. It's an unsettling sensation, and I instinctively curl up, hugging my knees. Memi, witnessing my discomfort, appears to panic, likely interpreting it as my first time experiencing a miscarriage.
"No, it's okay," I assure her, doing my best to disguise the real cause of my discomfort. "I just don't feel really well. Can we meet up tomorrow, your majesty?"
Memi nods in understanding. "Alright, here's your meal, and don't hesitate to call us if you need a doctor. We'll be around here."
I nod in gratitude, watching her depart as I continue to endure the discomfort, silently wishing for relief and hoping that this momentary inconvenience won't jeopardize our mission to find Parker and Bai Qingqing.
After the queen departs, leaving us in the guest room, Darius and I find ourselves alone in the room. The absence of the queen creates a moment of quiet intimacy.
Darius approaches me, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you okay?" he asks softly, his hand reaching out to gently brush against my lower abdomen.
