"I thought they'd killed you. I lost my temper." -Emperor Mage, Tamora Pierce
Narnia, 2318
Edmund was familiar with the feeling of desperation and panic. But, somehow, it still caught him off-guard every time.
He had no idea of what was up with the fates, deciding to make both Olivia and Lucy go missing. When Caspian shook him awake, gesturing to the two make-shift beds empty, Edmund felt every ounce of panic etch inside his stomach, demons begging to be set free.
Large footprints were left in the sand, characteristic because of their seven toes and much bigger than one of a regular human's.
"Where's Lucy? Where's Olivia?" Edmund asked in a whisper, his eyes going around desperately. "Lucy! Olivia!"
Caspian commanded everyone to wake, the crew grabbing their weapons in seconds and hurrying inside the woods, leaving a snoring Eustace behind. During their path, they found Lucy's dagger and Olivia's bag, items these girls would never leave behind.
Suddenly, several spears fell around them, forming a circle and closing in on the crew of the Dawn Treader. Something slapped their swords away from their hands, something invisible and mysterious.
"Stop there or perish!" Commanded a voice somewhere to Caspian's left. The crew began to debate themselves, with fists colliding against their cheeks and their own weapons pointed at their faces.
"What sort of creatures are you?" Asked a horrified Caspian. Edmund thought about Peter because he was the one who knew everything about all the creatures in Narnia and the other Kingdoms. If there was one person to know something about invisible beasts, the High King of Narnia was one. But Peter was stuck in England.
"Big creatures with the head of a tiger and the body of, a uh..."
"A different tiger!"
"Yeah!"
The sources of the voices started to become visible. They were not intimidating at all, more like comical. Little men with a single foot instead of two, all having red or white hair and beards. "You don't want to mess with us!"
Edmund, trying to hold back the smirk etching on his face, remained serious. "Or what?"
"Or I'll claw you to death!"
"And I'll ram my tusks right through you!"
"And I'll gnash you with my teeth!"
"I'll bite you with my fangs!"
The Just King couldn't hold back anymore. "You mean squash us with your fat bellies?" He raised an eyebrow.
