For the briefest of moments, the world stopped moving. The air in the dorm stilled. Even the ambient noise of the building slowed to a halt. The only sound being the beating of Kaeden's heart and the gentle shuffling of Rafael's feet against the floor.
Both wanted to move. To speak. To say something, anything to the other, of whom they had not spoken, nor seen, nor touched in what felt like a lifetime. The sense of dread and guilt that filled Kaeden's chest each time he visited and spoke to his old flame, now felt settled and seeming vanished as the pair stood across from each other.
"H-How?" Kaeden questioned, slowly he reached out, his feet moving on their own, his fingertips brushing against Rafael's arm, he let out a soft chuckle, knowing that Rafael truly stood before him,
"Magic," Rafael answered as he stepped forward,
Kaeden laughed and flung himself forward, hugging Rafael. Who hugged him back, lifting him off the floor and holding onto him as tight as he could without hurting him.
"How!?" Kaeden asked again with his face buried in the other's neck,
"It's a miracle huh, Kay," Rafael answered with a bubbly laugh, Kaeden found himself laughing as he hugged Rafael even tighter, "Ask them, they're the ones' with the magic,"
"Who?" Kaeden questioned as he pulled away, looking up at Rafael with a look of confusion,
"Surprise!" A chorus of voices cheered,
Kaeden jumped, turning to find what should have been an empty and quiet dorm room now filled with his friends, each of whom had recently disappeared one after the one at the party. It was a cloaking spell, held up by Josie and Hope, now dropped to reveal the cheering faces of everyone. All but Jed.
The door swung of the dorm swung open and in walked Jed, sans a shirt, panting heavily and catching his breath.
"Did I, miss it?" Jed asked, taking in large huffs of air.
"Yeah man, you did," Kaleb said in a flat tone, "We told you be heard after midnight,"
"Damnit, I ditched as fast I could when I noticed Kay had left the party, but it was so hard to shake those guys, I mean they party hard-" Jed begun to rant,
"Silcenio," Hope muttered, Jed voice's vanished mid sentence, along with his mouth, "You're ruining the moment,"
"How? When? Why? What!" Kaeden asked all at once looking between his friends then back to Rafael who still hadn't taken his eyes away from the shorter of the two,
"Tonight was a celestial event, and besides boosting our magic, it was the perfect opportunity for Hope and I to enter into the Waithe Family Mirror World, and get everything ready," Josie started to explained,
"We planned this months ago, before we even finished school, it was just a matter of keeping it a secret from you," Lizzie added on before nudging at Milton,
