Today we were playing Chelsea in our first wsl game of the year. It was a midday kick off.

I was not allowed to play today but I still travelled with the team to the Emirates. I was going to watch the game from the stands with Jordan.

We sat down and we were talking she knew that I was annoyed that I wouldn’t be allowed to play.

“You will be back on the pitch before you know it” Jordan said

I replied “I know it just sucks. I shouldn’t have to sit here; I should be helping my team”

She put her hand on mine and said “I know it does but you will prove everyone who doubted you wrong”

My heart started racing and it took me by surprise.

“what’s wrong” Jordan asked

“Nothing I just didn’t expect” I looked at her hand that was still on mine. She looked down as well and she moved her hand away

I felt bad because I could see that she took it in the wrong way but the stadium was starting to fill up and I felt like we couldn’t continue with the conversation.

As you would expect Jordan wouldn’t really talk to me after that.

Despite everything I was pretty excited to watch the game as a fan. The game started.

It was equally matched the whole of the first half. Both teams had chances but neither could put anything away. In the 39th minute Lauren James was given a yellow card for a bad foul on Steph Catley.

At half time Jordan was the special guest. She spoke passionately about the club and the players that she was leaving. I knew she loved this club and the fans but also the fans loved her. She got an amazing applause at the end of her interview.

The subs waited for Jordan to finish. Katie, Jen and Lotte all gave her a hug. By the time she got back to where I was sitting the game was about to kick off. I knew that she was emotional it was a big thing for her and her whole speech and knowing how she felt made me emotional. She looked at me as she sat down and asked “you ok”

I said “yeah” but I couldn’t really say anything else because I felt like I was going to break down.

She looked to the pitch and the game was about to start again. She said “second half is starting”

I just nodded.

We both turned back to the pitch. The whistle blew.

Both teams committed a couple of fouls in the first minutes of the second half. In the 56th minute Caitlin Foord was brought down in the area and the ref blew the whistle and pointed to the spot. We had a penalty that Kim Little stepped up to take. She looked composed and ready. She ran up shot into the bottom right corner of the goal and its in. The crowd erupts. Me and Jordan jump up then we hug but she pulls away really quickly. I guess I caused that. I need to sort this out.

5  minutes later Chelsea make 2 changes. To try and change the game.

The next 20 minutes are again equally matched both teams with chances that they can’t capitalize on.

In the 89th minute Cankovic crosses the ball in and Sam Kerr heads the ball into the back of the net.

The game finishes. I walk over to the huddle with the rest of the players and Jonas says some things then Leah accepts responsibility for the Chelsea goal we all tell her that there wasn’t much that she could do it was actually good play by them. But I could tell that she still blamed herself for it.
