Request - Y/n gets beat up or just gets hurt, the wranglers help her and defend her. When Kayce finds out he's fuming but y/n asks him to just stay with her, so he does and takes her of her until she's fully healed again.

You hissed as Ryan and Walker both helped you up the stairs at the main house on the ranch. About halfway up, you were wishing the bedrooms were on the first floor and cursed the Dutton ancestors for building this two-story monstrosity.

"Can you make it?" Ryan asked you.

"Yeah," You breathed out. "A horse rolled over me...give me some grace here."

"Still think we should call a doctor," Walker said from your other side.

"I'm fine," You rolled your eyes. "I'm just slow because-"

"A horse rolled over you," Both Ryan and Walker finished for you.

They helped you down the hall and into the bedroom you shared with Kayce. When you were able to sit down on the bed, you immediately felt ten times better. You looked up at the men.

"Here," Ryan kneeled down and helped take your boots off while Walker grabbed your hat from your head and sat it on the dresser.

"We ain't taking your clothes off for you," Ryan stood back up. "Kayce is already gonna kill us for putting you on that new bronco."

"I asked for him!" You rolled your eyes.

"And we told you no," Ryan placed his hands on his hips. "But you're more suborn than a mare in heat."

"I'll take that compliment," You giggled but then grabbed your side in pain.

"See?" Walker sighed.

"I'm just sore," You said. "I just need to rest."

They helped you get back to where you could lean on the pillows. You took your belt and socks off, untucking your shirt before you completely relaxed.

"Go tell Rip she's resting," Ryan said to Walker.

"Thank you, Walker," You called out and the wrangler nodded at you.

"Y/N..." Ryan waited until Walker was gone. "You do know how Mrs. Dutton died, don't you?"

"Yeah, Kayce told me they were out riding, and her horse..." You stopped as your eyes got bigger with understanding.

"So that's why when Kayce gets here he's gonna probably want to kill something," Ryan nodded.

"I forgot," You ran your fingers through your hair. "Shit...I was so blunt when I called him too about it."

You both heard the door slam open and then shut. Ryan gave you one more look and then left the bedroom. You didn't hear him cross paths with Kayce, so you wondered if he went out the back. A few seconds later, Kayce was walking into your bedroom.

"Jesus Christ," Kayce's shoulders sagged as he looked at you.

"I'm okay," You said, leaning up on your elbows. "I'm just sore...but I'm fine."

"What happened?" Kayce walked over and sat next to you on the bed.

You didn't answer him, not wanting him to get angry or yell at you.

"What happened, Y/N?" Kayce asked again.

"My horse got spooked," You said quietly.

"Peanut doesn't get spooked," Kayce raised an eyebrow.

He had a point. Your regular horse, Peanut, was a very calm ride. You had never had any problems with Peanut, and you should have thought of that before you started talking. You took a short breath, your side still sore.

"That's because I wasn't on Peanut," You sighed.

"What were you on?" Kayce asked.

"That new bronco?" You grimaced. "The yellow one."

"That one ain't completely broke, Y/N!" Kayce growled.

"I-I know," You held out your hands. "A-And you're right...I shouldn't have done it. It was way stupid and I'm sorry. But it was completely my fault. My choice."

"Did he buck you?" Kayce asked,

"Uh, yeah," You nodded. "And then he sort of tripped on himself and rolled over...me."

Kayce's eyes got wide and then he got real quiet.

"I know..." You sighed. "Kayce, I'm so sorry...I'm just a little sore on my side, but I'm fine."

Kayce reached forward and pulled up your shirt. There was a nice yellow bruise on your side forming about the size of a foot. You felt Kayce gently touched under the bruise and trace around it, his eyes looking up to yours again.

"Kayce, I'm fine," You said again. "I promise."

"I'm gonna go talk to the guys," Kayce grunted, standing up.

Even though it was painful, your hand shot out and held onto Kayce's arm.

"Wait..." You looked up at him. "Please, don't...it wasn't their fault."

"They shouldn't have let your ass on that horse," Kayce snapped.

"I was stubborn," You said. "I did it...they fought me, but I was persistent. It wasn't their fault, please."

"Y/N..." Kayce rolled his eyes.

"Please, Kayce," You pulled on his arm. "Just...stay with me."

"Stay with you?" Kayce asked,

"Please?" You tugged again and this time Kayce took a step back toward you. "Just lay down with me."

Kayce looked at you for a moment and then sighed, crawling into bed next to you. You snuggled up into him and sighed with contentment as you listened to his rapid heartbeat. It was a little bit, but you eventually heard it even out and then felt Kayce's lips against your forehead.

"My mom..." Kayce started but then stopped.

"I know," You sighed. "I'm so sorry."

"Are you sure you don't need a doctor?" He asked you.

"Just you," You snuggled up to him more. "I just need you."

A few days, and multiple salt baths and soothing herb oils, later...and you were still snuggled up next to Kayce in the bed one night. It was getting colder now, so Kayce made a small fire in the fireplace in your room. The cracks and the pops were all you could hear.

"How's the side?" Kayce mumbled, his fingers running through your hair.

"Much better," You sighed.

"Good," He kissed your forehead.

"I heard you finally broke the horse?" You asked softly.

You had seen Ryan that afternoon and he told you about Kayce working the horse hard every day since your accident. Ryan also told you that Kayce had just about said everything under the sun to the wranglers about protecting you and watching out for you better.

"Yeah," Kayce sighed. "But you still ain't getting back on that one."

"I know," You smiled up at him. "It's just Mr. Peanut for me from here on out."

Kayce snorted but pulled you closer to him with a smile.
