Chapter 18: Delilah

(Late morning)
                          
I had women my men up as soon as the sun rose. I had to get to this point as soon as possible. 
                          
My heart pounded against my chest as I reached the top of the mountain. I pulled myself up and ran into the cave, in the distance I saw a pedestal with something looming over it. once I reached it I felt my heart drop all the way down to my gut. It was only a note, an old note lay where the amulet should be. 
                          
I picked up the note, my anger boiling through out my body. The rest of the men soon joined me and noticed my anger. I looked at the note in my hand and opened it, it read..
                          
Dear whoever has come to collect this amulet,
My name is Rue. I am the Luna of the most powerful pack in the world.
I have taken the amulet in safe keeping and given it to someone I knew would never abuse it's power.
                          
I looked at the note, "That can't be it!" I shouted and dropped to the floor. I held the note in my hand and starred at it. Magically it started to glimmer and words appeared on the back of the piece of paper in my hands. I held it up to my face as I started to read the new text, with a sense of hope. 
                          
If you are reading this now, you must truly need the amulet and I can only guess what for. I have given the amulet to my youngest daughter Delilah, knowing she is only a child and will not understand its true identity. She probably never will, which is why it has been passed down tat her. 
Be careful and do not hurt Delilah as you take the amulet, for it will choose if you are worthy of having it.
                          
And then the writing disappeared. I got up, on my feet once again, determined to get the amulet and get my mate back in my arms. I walked out of the cave, my men asking me for orders. 
                          
"We need to get to Delilah." I commanded as I shifted into my wolf and ran back to the pack house.

(Night time)
                          
My wolf was running through a dense forest, many rouges followed behind her, howling and growling. I looked through my wolfs eyes, as that's all I can do these days, and noticed the familiar surroundings, my heart started to beat a little faster as this caught my attention.. I sniffed the air and realised we were near the Red Moonlight Pack... Hunters pack. My wolf noticed that I realised where we were, she chuckled at my panic. 
                          
"What are we doing here?" I asked her, getting a little worried.
                          
"Oh nothing bad child... Just getting someone before our mate does." She said, growling the last part.
                          
"How are we getting in my lady?" Asked one of the rouges as we stopped at the tree line, behind the pack house. 
                          
"It'll be just be me going in. All of you hide and wait here, no pack member is to be harmed." she commanded. All the rouges bowed their heads and in the blink of an eye, they all ran off. My wolf turned towards the direction of the pack house. 
                          
"I will get us to the house.. We will shift into human form and you will get Delilah since I cannot control you in human form." she told me briefly before starting to run towards the pack house.
                          
"Why are we getting Delilah? She's safer here than with us" I told her.
                          
"She has something that can stop us... me and turn this whole thing around.. Hunter should have realised by now that the amulet isn't at the cave." she said, becoming more alert with her surroundings as we got closer to the house. 
                          
"So you can't control me when we're in human form?" I asked, changing the subject. 
                          
"That is true." she said simply. 
                          
"And you trust me." I asked cautiously. I felt her become anxious as she quietly snarled at me. 
                          
"Don't give me a reason not to." She said, before cutting off out mind link. I nodded and watched as my wolf ran towards the pack house.

My wolf stopped at the back of the house and took a deep breath. 
                          
"Get in, get Delilah and get out. That's all you have to do." my wolf told me. I nodded.
                          
My wolf shifted and I watched as my paws turned into hands and feet, I felt myself take control and oh it felt good to be able to move. Slowly I stood up, my knees wobbling a bit. I looked down and noticed the small baby bump I had on my stomach. Unconsciously, a tear dropped from my eye. I can move.. I'm somewhat free.
                          
"Hurry up human." my wolf ordered, getting a bit annoyed, but I didn't care.. She has no control over me now. I looked up towards the full moon above and with all my bottled up emotions, I howled. It felt so good to move again.
                          
Quietly giggling I walked slowly towards the doorway. Listening to the lecture my wolf was giving me.

My men and I were still running, I refused to stop, not until we got to the pack house. As my wolf ran, I sniffed the air, my packs scent filled my nose but also a trace of something familiar.. The scent I craved.. My mates scent.
                          
My heart skipped a beat, giving my wolf more energy and determination to get to the pack house... But why was North at the pack house...

I walked through the familiar rooms I used to once walk in, somehow navigating my way through this maze. I took a deep breath in, I smelt Delilah's scent among many other familiar ones.
                          
Quietly, I opened the front door and slipped inside, not making a noise. 
                          
I sniffed again and followed my nose to a room. Quietly I opened the door and saw a crib. I walked towards it slowly and looked into it, there lay Delilah, peacefully sleeping. I felt my eyes get a little watery. I realised that I had left her here, with pretty much no one since our brothers were back home rebuilding our pack.
                          
I had abandoned her, I left her.
                          
I covered my mouth because by now, tears were streaming down my face. I took a deep breath and picked her up and held her in my arms. I felt my wolf whimper silently, the guilt of our actions getting to her as well.
                          
I wrapped her up in a blanket and made my way back to the front door. I sat down on the front porch and just looked at her. 
                          
I don't know how long I was sitting there for but I heard a noise and when I looked up, my mate was standing only a few feet away from me, panting,  sweat dripping from his fore head.
                          
And I couldn't take my eyes off him.
