The beginning.

                                    

                                          
(All of the main characters are 16 to 17 years old! Just thought I should say now. Here is just a little bit of character information.)

Ace Willow: 17 yrs, male. He is 5'7" with short black hair and light greyish-blue eyes. He often wore dark and comfortable clothing. He's introverted and mainly keeps to himself, but sometimes his curiosity can get the better of him.

Alex Oldsworth: 16 yrs, female. She is 5'8" with shoulder length brown hair and hazel eyes. She likes wearing casual clothes and putting her hair up in a bun or ponytail. She's a bit shy with new people but she warms up pretty easily.

Jae Smith: 16 yrs, genderfluid. They're 5'5" with short dirty-blonde hair and blue-green eyes. They're normally dressed in minimalist fashion. They're a little gremlin.

Maverick Terrinz: 17 yrs, male. He's 5'10" with dark, chocolate colored hair and green eyes. He likes to wear alternative or just comfortable clothing. He's pretty calm most of the time, as well as being flirty and playful.

Selena Ammand: 17 yrs, female. She's 5'6" with strawberry blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She wears fancy or chic style clothing. She's a bit sassy, but she still cares.

(ACE'S P.O.V)

I was sitting at a table outside, reading a book like always. It was as if I thought of nothing else but the book until a group of people came and sat with me while they talked playfully with each other. Before looking up and seeing who it was, I spoke."Hey," I muttered, still looking down at my book. After a few seconds I looked up to see all of them staring at me. They all had stupid grins plastered on their faces. "What?" I said, shutting my book and staring back at them.

"D-Did I do something wrong?.." I stuttered. After a few more moments they started giggling as they saw a slight look of discomfort cross my face.  

"No," One of them said. "We just wanted to see how you would react." They giggled. 

The first one to speak was Alex. "You just don't seem to find our humor very funny, do you?" She sighed.

I looked at the others, Selena, Maverick and Jae, before back at Alex. "No.. not really." I said, some of my discomfort leaving my voice. "You need to figure out what's funny and what's not rather than reading those books all day!" Jae shouted to my reply. 

"Yeah.. who wants to sit down and read a boring book about vampires?" Selena hissed. I blushed a bit in embarrassment and slid the book down into my lap rather than on the table. I looked down at my legs too. I never knew what to say to them whenever they said stuff like that.

"Erm.." Maverick mumbled. "Reading isn't that bad. Maybe that's why Ace is so much smarter than you two." He said, glaring at them. "Maybe you should try sometime. It would probably help you guys be calmer too." He looked at me, his face softening just a bit. I smiled a bit hearing that and it made me look up at him for a moment. I mouthed, "Thank you," as we made eye contact, and it made us both turn the slightest shade of pink. We looked away from each other after that.

"What?!" Selena said, sounding a bit offended. "Smarter than me? As if!" She said, crossing her arms and looking away in a dramatic manner. Jae just mumbled to themself. 

Alex stared between the three, and then sighed again. "Well, me and Selena wanted to know if you guys wanted to go to the beach sometime this week? We have been all kind of just staying in the same little area for the past few days.. We should go out and do something fun!" She said, trying to brighten the mood a bit from what just happened. "Um.. You don't have to come if you don't want to, Ace. I know you don't like crowded spaces like that.

Jae already agreed, and Maverick took a second trying to figure out what he had to do that week before he agreed. I paused and looked at them all, and thought about it myself. "I'll go.." I said. 

Selena and Jae were a bit surprised to hear that. "Really? You want to come too? That's.. surprising." Jae said. 

I nodded, looking down a bit. "When are we gonna go?" I asked. "Well we were thinking on Thursday? If you guys are free." Alex replied.

"I'm free," Maverick said, looking at her and then at me. "I am too," I mumbled. We looked at each other again, and then I looked back at Alex and Selena.

"Well, I guess we'll see each other on Thursday?" Selena said, a bit of sass hitting her tone again. She had a slight grin on her face too. Me and Jae nodded. 

"I might be a bit late though. Just thought I should say before it happens." Maverick said, scratching his neck for a moment. "That's okay, we'll wait for you." Alex said. 

We hung out for a few hours walking around and talking, before we got back to where we met up. We split up, but Maverick stayed behind for a moment, looking at me. "Hey.." He muttered, scratching the side of his arm a bit. "I was wondering, if you wanted to hang out sometime after we go to the beach with the other three?" 

I put my book into my bag and looked up at him. I blushed a bit after I thought about it. "Um.. sure." I said, trying not to sound too excited about it. I had always wanted time with Maverick alone, but I was always scared to ask.

Maverick smiled, he always has had a nice smile. "Is there a certain date you want me to pick you up or would you rather have it be a surprise?" He asked. 

I raised an eyebrow, before answering. "I don't mind.." I said. "You don't have to pick me up either, we could just meet up somewhere if that's easier for you." I suggested. 

He looked up for a moment, before shaking his head. "I'd like picking you up more.. That means I know that you'll be safe and I get to spend some extra time with you." He said playfully with a  grin. 

I blushed, and I looked down a bit. "Okay," I said in a hushed tone, looking away from him a bit. 

He waved goodbye, and I waved as well. I watched him leave before heading my own way home. I had a soft smile on my face as I walked.
