Double Update: Part 1 of 2
--
The morning after was their official first day back to work in the company building. The atmosphere was different now. The building seemed to be a happier place filled with more love than before. Everyone seemed happier to be there, and maybe it was because the boss seemed happier too.
"We'll probably have to put her on an indefinite hiatus." Yeji spoke over the phone, writing through documents and reading through emails. Suddenly her company is under complete fire after a member from her biggest girl group has quite literally fucked over her whole group by herself.
"Well, we really have no choice... It's not only about their reputation, I believe in punishing my idols if they do stupid stuff as adults."
Lia walked in with her coffee and her boss' , smiling at Yeji in her boss mode. This side of Yeji used to only scare and aggravate her. But now it scares her, aggravates her, and makes her weak.
Yeji's face lit up completely at the sight of Lia coming up to her desk and putting her coffee down. "Hey, baby. Thank you." She whispered before talking to the man on speaker again, "... I understand, but this is not something to take lightly. The woman wore a swastika multiple times in the company of German and Jewish people, in a country where history is deeply and widely taught, posted the shirt on social media, and then in the same week she wore a Trump supporting shirt right before her group goes on tour in the US which is in a political pile of garbage right now- No, and I have to talk to Twice's manager about approving that apology because it wasn't enough, I mean her fans were writing longer paragraphs defending her."
Lia's face cringed, she knew what was going on. It was an ugly situation. Very ugly.
"Whether you think the situation is severe or not really isn't your choice. The internet has spoken, I have spoken and this is bad. She's on TMZ, Billboard, western fans are tearing her apart, people are wanting refunds on their US Twice tickets. A hiatus for Chaeyoung is the only way we can save Twice internationally, and it gives her a chance to focus only on self reflection... I'm aware most companies don't care about actually educating their idols, but that is not HY Entertainment, if you want to tell me otherwise about my own company, then why don't we change HY Ent to whatever the hell your initials are, thank you, have a great day." Yeji hung up, sighing in stress.
Talking to rich men is like talking to... rich men, there's no other equivalent. It's like getting nowhere over and over again.
"It's everywhere..." Lia sighed, sitting down at her desk.
"It is... It's so unexpected. And now I gotta fix it as if I know every article of clothing my idols own. Dammit, I'm so disappointed."
"Have you spoken to Chaeyoung about it yet?"
"Oh I just got out of a meeting with her, yeah. She suggested the hiatus so she could self-reflect and educate herself."
"She feels bad, huh?"
"Bad? I'm legitimately scared that she's gonna take her own life. The whole internet is telling her to, she's gotten a tough scolding from her whole group, her company, her boss, and now she's being completely disconnected from her life as an idol. She feels alone and I told her that she's not, everyone fucks up, but it's just so damn hard to hold someone accountable without making them feel like they can't ever come back from this."
"So she didn't know about the symbol she was wearing?" Lia found that a bit unbelievable. She knows that the education system in Korea is very different from the west, but it's one of the most well known hate symbols across the globe.
