Request – Can we do one where Tate asks the reader where babies come from and Kayce is right there? The reader and Kayce had been dating for a while now (Kayce and Monica divorced after a year of marriage) and maybe Tate is like five or six...younger. Thank you!
You had lost a bet with Kayce, so it was your turn to make breakfast. Currently, you were making pancakes on the stove while Kayce and Tate sat on the couch watching cartoons.
You flipped over the row of pancakes and glanced over your shoulder.
"Two minutes, boys," You called.
Kayce and Tate got up and grabbed some plates. Kayce handed them to Tate to bring to you while he poured you and himself a cup of coffee.
"Tate, what do you want to drink?" Kayce asked.
"Orange juice," Tate said as he stood next to you.
You leaned down and kissed the top of his head as you turned the stove off. While you plated the plates, Kayce handed Tate his orange juice. You gave Tate his plate and he went over to the table. You plated Kayce his and handed it over.
Kayce kissed your cheek as a thank you before he joined Tate. You grabbed your coffee and plate and joined them both. A few minutes into eating Tate looked up at you.
"Hey Y/N?" Tate asked.
"Hmm?" You chewed a bite.
"Where do babies come from?" Tate had the most confused look on his face,
You stopped chewing and felt Kayce tense up beside you too. You sat your fork down and took a sip of your coffee, trying to bide you some time.
"Where do babies come from?" You asked and Tate nodded. "Uh..."
You looked at Kayce who was watching you like a hawk right now.
"Well," You focused back on Tate. "Babies come from their mommas."
"That's why I'm asking you," Tate said. "Cause you're a girl."
Kayce snorted next to you and you kicked him under the table.
"Well, I've never had a baby before, Tate," You smiled. "But babies do come from girls."
"How?" Tate asked.
"How what?" You tilted your head.
"How do they come from you?" He nodded.
"Well," You looked over at Kayce who seemed to be enjoying this way more than you were. "You've seen a baby calf born Tate."
"Yeah, but that machine is used," Tate said. "How do people's babies come from their mommas?"
You took another sip of your coffee.
"Well...a girl needs a boy to make a baby," You started, not having been prepared for this conversation this morning. "And it really helps if the girl and boy are in love."
"In love?" Tate asked.
"It makes it easier at least," You shrugged. "But when a girl and a boy love each other, they can decide if they want to have a baby or not."
"So, they just decide, and it happens?" Tate asked.
"Well, there is a process to making a baby," You explained. "But you have to really want a baby with that person...you have to trust that person that they're going to love the baby more than anything."
"Do you have to marry them?" Tate asked.
"Not necessarily," You shook your head. "But sometimes that's easier."
"And then you have a baby?" Tate looked at you.
"And then you can have a baby," You nodded, praying he wasn't going to ask you how the baby got inside a woman's stomach.
"I don't think I want a baby," Tate sighed.
"You're still a baby," Kayce laughed.
"Oh, now you speak?" You raised an eyebrow at him.
"Tate...why are you asking these questions?" Kayce ignored you.
"Kids were talking about it at school," Tate shrugged.
"Why did you ask Y/N?" Kayce finished his pancakes.
"Cause she's a girl," Tate said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "And the girls have the babies."
"He's right about that," You smirked at Kayce.
"Are you gonna have a baby, Y/N?" Tate asked.
"I don't know, buddy," You shrugged. "How would that make you feel?"
"That depends," Tate said.
"On what?" You asked.
Tate looked over at his dad.
"Will you have a baby with my dad?"
You felt Kayce place his hand on your thigh under the table.
"I'll promise you this, Tate," You smiled. "If I do ever have a baby, it will be with your dad."
"Because you two love each other?" Tate was remembering what you had said.
"That's right," You smiled.
A few hours later you were sitting on the front porch with Kayce while Tate played with his dog in the front part of the cabin you shared. You were tucked into his side, Kayce's arm wrapped around you.
"He's pretty young to be asking about babies," You said softly to Kayce.
"Yeah, but kids talk about things at school," Kayce sighed, his lips pressing to the back of your head.
"Yeah," You leaned back into his chest.
"What are you thinking?" Kayce asked.
"I'm thinking about babies," You giggled.
"What about them?" Kayce squeezed you.
You leaned up and looked behind you at Kayce.
"What are you thinking about?" You raised an eyebrow at him.
"Babies," Kayce smirked up at you.
"What about them?" You mimicked what Kayce had just said.
"That I want them," Kayce said. "With you."
"We're thinking the same thing, Dutton," You leaned in and kissed him.
Kayce deepened the kiss, his arms pulled you closer to him.
"Ew, stop!" Tate laughed from the porch steps. "That's how they said you start when you're gonna make a baby!
You and Kayce laughed out loud.
