"we are relocating you." the head boss at tillys work stated simply as he walked around his office obviously looking for something.
"what? relocating?" tilly asked confused.
"yeah, it's nothing bad we just think you would work better in... let's say new york."
"uh- i moved my whole life over here for this job. and you just want me to up and move again?" tilly practically scoffed.
"exactly." he nodded and handed her a book which was full of places she could choose to relocate to.
"what if i want to stay here? i have a life here, friends, a boyfriend, my life is here." she struggled for her words.
"not a choice. now go do some work." he pointed to the door and tilly got up immediately and left the book on the desk, not bothering to take it with her.
she slammed the door on the way out and walked right passed her desk and out to her car.
she didn't drive anywhere, she just sat in her car. she didn't cry because she wasn't upset, she was frustrated. who just made someone move there whole life from place to place?
she sat in her car just thinking, what was she going to do?
jack's name lit up her phone screen and she picked it up immediately, "wow that was quick!" jack chuckled through the phone.
"uh- yeah im just on break." she fake laughed trying to cover up her anger.
"at 9?"
"yeah, just super busy today and shit."
"oh yeah... anyway, so are you coming to my game tonight?" he asked as if the world was depending on her answer.
"of course i am jack." she giggled and started picking some things up off the ground of her car.
"great, because i cannot wait to see you wearing my number!" he cheered excitedly and tilly could just see how much he was smiling at his apartment.
-
tilly had spent the last hour standing in her bathroom trying to get ready, but she was just so indecisive with everything.
she couldn't figure out which pants she wanted to wear, what top, what jumper, what shoes, what hairstyle or even what type of makeup to do.
the time was now nearing closer and closer to when jack was going to come pick her up, her thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock at the apartment door.
she rushed out into the entrance and rowan had already answered the door and was talking to jack, he was early.
rowan turned her head and her eyes landed on tilly, "god i hope your not wearing that to the game!" she chuckled as she saw she was still in her pyjamas.
"i cant decide on what to wear!" she groaned and jack pocked his head in and laughed at the sight of her clothes. "don't laugh again or i swear to god i will smack the shit out of you." tilly threatened.
"nice to see you too matilda." he entered the apartment and rowan shut the door behind him.
"come on, i'll help you till, you make yourself at home jack. she will be ready in 10!" rowan pulled tilly back into her room and jack found himself comfortable on the couch watching the office, which rowan had put on.
jack felt a sense on nostalgia as he watched the show, he remembered when every summer he would stay at the house, rowan forced him to watch the show day after day. he used to act like he hated it in front of the girl, but deep down he actually loved it. it had become his comfort show as a kid, watching it now just felt like he was safe and at home.
back in tilly's room, rowan was chucking clothes left right and centre trying to put the best outfit she could find. she found a simple denim blue jeans and paired them with a grey long sleeve tight fit shirt and grabbed some random shoes.
rowan did tilly's hair and makeup as fast as she could. "i feel bad when you do everything for me." tilly pouted as she looked at rowan in the mirror as she tied her hair up into a ponytail.
rowan didn't feel bad, just as jack she felt at comfort doing something she used to do when she was younger. once her father passed away, rowan took care of her siblings and mother for months on end, well until her mother finally decided on being a mother again.
she adored doing tilly's hair and make up for her, she loved helping people. that was just rowan.
the two girls finished and then made there way out to the couch where jack was so into the episode playing on the screen, "i knew it! you love this show!" rowan teased as she took the remote and paused it.
"guilty." he chuckled and he stopped as he saw how beautiful tilly was in her outfit, "gosh you look so pretty tills, here." he handed her one of his jerseys with his number 86 and his last name written on the back.
tilly pulled it over her head and turned around, jack's eyes lit up at the sight of her in it. "i could get used to you having that last name."
she chuckled and picked up her handbag which laid on the coffee table.
"matilda hughes, huh that has a ring to it!" he smirked at her and rowan rolled her eyes and pushed the two out of the apartment.
"i want her back by 12 hughes." she pointed to the boy with a stern tone and look on her face.
"i, i, captain."
—
tilly was hanging off her chair for half of the game, she just felt anxious watching the whole game unfold, and not knowing what would happen next.
the devils had won the game by 2-1.
"jack!" she called out as she walked down the halls and saw the boy walking away.
"oh hey tills!" he turned around and walked towards her, instantly placing his lips on top of hers as they reached each other.
"you. played. so. well." she said in between each kiss she gave her boyfriend.
"thank you pretty girl, you look so good repping my name and number."
