Request - There have been many different Father's Day requests with Kayce. So I've pulled a part of each of them and put this little gem together for you all!
Happy Father's Day to those with a dad, who never had a dad, who've lost their dad, and who is a dad (in all the different shapes and forms) - much love!
You leaned up into a sitting position in your bed, stretching your arms up high. The bathroom light was on, meaning Kayce was up, you just weren't sure why. It was Sunday, so work didn't begin before the sun rose, but it was also Father's Day. But seeing as Tate was only seven, most of those duties fell to you.
The bathroom opened up and Kayce walked out fully dressed, shutting the light off. He smiled though, when he saw you sitting up in bed.
"Morning," Kayce walked over to your side and sat down with a smile on his face.
"Hey," You reached up and cupped his cheek. "Good morning...where are you off to?"
"M'gonna go riding with Dad," Kayce said with a light sigh.
You smiled at him.
"I think that sounds lovely," You nodded. "Tell him that Tate and I will have breakfast ready for you two when you get back."
"You don't have to," Kayce shook his head.
You blinked a few times, slowly leaning in and pressing your lips to his.
"I want to," You kissed him again before leaning back. "You're a good Dad, Kayce...let Tate and I love on you some...especially today, Happy Father's Day."
"Shouldn't be long," Kayce stood up, looking down at you. "An hour or so tops."
"There's no need to rush," You glanced at the clock. "Tate won't be up for another hour at least."
Kayce leaned down and kissed your forehead before he walked out of the room. You waited until you heard the front door open and shut before you got out and ready for the day. Seeing as how it would be a lazy Sunday for you, you chose light-weight leggings and a Yellowstone National Park shirt. Your wavy hair hug down your back as you walked down the hallway, pausing to look into Tate's bedroom.
Tate was still passed out in his bed. You smiled and shut his door softly before you made your way down to the kitchen. After making yourself some coffee you went to sit on the front porch, your feet kicked up on the railing.
There still was a hint of coolness on June mornings, as your eyes took in the land before you. The barn and bunkhouse down in the distance were already coming to life. Your eyes traveled over the pastures where you knew Kayce and John must have gone.
After a little while, and another cup of decaf coffee, later you heard Tate walk out. You looked over your shoulder to see him still sleepy as he smiled at you.
"Good morning," You held out your arm as Tate sat in the chair with you, throwing his legs over your lap.
"Morning," Tate grumbled.
He sounded just like Kayce did when he was tired. You let Tate nudge his head under your chin as you rocked the chair with your feet against the wood. The two of you sat like that for a few minutes, just waking up the natural way.
"Do you remember what today is?" You asked Tate.
"It's Dad's day," He sighed into you.
"And do you remember what you and I said we'd do?" You leaned back to look down at him.
"Uh...make breakfast?" Tate smirked.
"And?" You eyed him.
"And..." Tate thought for a moment. "Oh! We're gonna surprise him!"
