I sit at the front of our entourage, my horse a few steps behind Dorian's. The carriage is surrounded by guards and yet I find myself glancing back, checking the white-haired girl is still contained.
No, not girl. Female. She's Fae, that's why we're taking her to Aelin and Rowan. They'll know what to do with her, or even just who she is.
"We should get there in an hour or two." Dorian announces. I nod and the soldiers around us breathe sighs of relief. Three days on horseback and sleeping on the hard ground is long enough.
"Who do you think she is?" I ask my friend quietly, looking around to make sure none of my soldiers overhear. He shrugs and whispers back. "I don't know, but let's hope we haven't just taken the world's most dangerous criminal out of her eternal cage." He laughs awkwardly and I groan. "Please don't let that be what Aelin tells us when we arri-"
I get cut off by a scream sounding from behind. A horse to my left bucks and the man on top is thrown off. I ignore him, knowing that I've trained my guard well enough to be able to grab their horse and avoid being trampled.
The back half of our entourage had stopped a few feet back, one of the wheel spokes snapped clean through. There's chaos behind the carriage as my soldiers' swords clash against thieves' daggers. For weapons so small, the outcasts manage to fight remarkably well, their small band sticking close together as they surround the guards.
As I steer my horse over to join them, I hear a blood-curdling scream from the carriage. I ride over to it and dismount, running up to the open door. Broken chain links lie on the ground, but it's otherwise empty. I curse under my breath and search the road, my eyes roaming over the thieves who surrendered to my soldiers, their weapons lying discarded once they realised, they'd been overpowered.
Another scream. I follow the sound, my sword drawn close to my chest as I wander off the road, trailing through the trees. Shadows slink along the ground, pulling towards something. I enter a clearing to see the Fae prisoner standing over a cowering thief, shadows climbing up her legs and the chains connecting her wrists.
Each time they touch she screams in pain, her body jolting as her magic fights the blocking power of the iron. I advance slowly, motioning for the outcast to run. I approach the female, and she stares at me with fearful eyes.
"Take it off." She whispers. I reach into my pocket and grab the key, gently lifting it to her hands and turning, praying to the gods that she doesn't kill me. They fall to the floor and the shadows wreath her entire body. She makes a pained face and whispers again.
"Take it off." There's a flash of pure white light and the shadows burst apart. I rush over and catch her as she faints, lifting her in my arms before making my way slowly back to the group. Dorian stands next to the broken carriage.
The thieves have been let free with a warning and none of my men have been fatally wounded, any minor scrapes already healed by my friend.
"What happened?" He asks suspiciously. I lower her down and grimace. "She was covered in shadows. Said 'take it off', so I had to. I'm sorry." I look at the ground as Dorian nods.
"That's okay. I'll take her on my horse since the carriage is wrecked. Use my magic to neutralise her and nullify any that she has of her own." I smile grimly and jump back on my horse. Dorian settles the female onto his horse's back and set off again. Hopefully we can get some answers at Terrasen.

This one's a bit more action packed. I'm not very good at writing sorry and I am open to any constructive criticism, but please don't be unnecessarily picky or rude because this is my first story on watt pad and I'm only learning. Please comment and vote! I love seeing your reactions to different parts, and this way I can make it more engaging for my targeted audience! We're almost at 100 reads for this book already, please help me reach that number, and hopefully we can get higher from here on out.
Thanks, and again, I'll try to get the next one out as soon as possible!
